Graham’s Foundation Launches Redesigned Care Packages for Preemie Parents
Based on input from more than 300 parents and neonatal professionals, the free care packages are designed to better help families cope with the challenges of premature birth.
Toledo, OH, May 18, 2017 --(PR.com)-- Graham’s Foundation (http://GrahamsFoundation.org), the global support organization for parents going through the journey of prematurity, has debuted a duo of redesigned care packages for preemie parents in the NICU and families with preemies making the transition home. In 2017, Graham’s Foundation will ship approximately 6,000 of these care packages to parents of premature babies throughout the US and Canada.
Parent surveys, input from medical professionals, and direction from the Graham’s Foundation advisory board guided the enhancements to the organization’s NICU and Transition Home Care Packages. The updates included a fresh look designed to be soothing and uplifting, as well as the addition of new items carefully chosen by committee to reduce feelings of anxiety, depression and fear in parents of preemies.
Each year, 13 million babies are born prematurely to parents who never expected their birth stories to be so challenging. Care packages are the single most important expression of the Graham’s Foundation founding principle to offer resources, programs and connections so parents are supported, empowered and hopeful throughout their NICU journey and beyond.
“The overarching experience of preemie parents is one of isolation,” said Graham’s Foundation board member Dr. Mia Doron, a neonatologist, co-author of the book Preemies: the Essential Guide for Parents of Premature Babies, and co-creator of the MyPreemie app. “Parents are cut-off from their dreams and expectations about what the result of their pregnancy should have been. There is no road map to point them back toward that destination. The redesigned care packages connect with parents in a personal way to demonstrate that Graham’s Foundation understands their practical and emotional needs and wants to help, now and in the future.”
