American Equus Rider Javier Castellano Wins 2017 Preakness Stakes Aboard Cloud Computing
Gilbert, AZ, May 27, 2017 --(PR.com)-- American Equus Rider Javier Castellano and Cloud Computing gave the crowd at the 142nd running of the Preakness Stakes, the thrill of a lifetime with their come from behind victory over Classic Empire and Always Dreaming. Although Cloud Computing was not favored to win the race, Castellano gave the three-year-old colt a masterful ride to achieve the upset of the year. American Equus was honored to be along for the ride in the second leg of the triple crown and is looking forward to moving on with the duo to the Belmont Stakes.
The Preakness Stakes, held at Pimlico Race Course in Baltimore, MD., marked the first Triple Crown win for Cloud Computing's trainer, Chad Brown, and the second for Castellano. "It's like the Superbowl," remarked Castellano. "It is top of the line competition with the best horses in the country, the best jockeys and the best trainers that qualify to be in that level. It's a big honor to participate with the best jockeys in the country."
Castellano and Cloud Computing completed the Pimlico track in 1 minute 55.98 seconds to earn Cloud Computing his walk to the winner's circle. "Cloud Computing is a young horse and it was the first time he came out in front, and the way he did it was very impressive," Castellano said. "He responded so well and I'm very excited about the way he finished, and to beat some of the top horses in the country like Always Dreaming and Classic Empire is very exciting!"
Castellano is proud to represent American Equus and race in their revolutionary stirrups. "These irons are the best in the market. I ride a lot of horses, 1,100-1,300 a year, and I'd been looking for something comfortable and something different and American Equus provided that."
American Equus' unique foot bed design incorporates technology that helps the rider maintain balance as well as keep their foot secure in the stirrup, which proved to be an integral part of Castellano when breaking for the finish and his safety during the race.
"With the amount that I ride, I don't feel like I get tired in these irons. The quality of the irons is very nice, and I feel very comfortable in them. I am proud to use them."
Out of the nine jockeys running the Preakness, five of them trusted American Equus irons to get them across the finish line safety. American Equus is proud to sponsor talented and professional athletes like Castellano, who is looking forward to tackling the Belmont Stakes in June.
