Discover Prince William & Manassas Honored with 2017 VIRGO Award

Manassas, VA, June 08, 2017 --(PR.com)-- Discover Prince William & Manassas, the destination marketing organization for Prince William County & Manassas, Virginia, received a VIRGO award at this year’s Virginia Association of Convention and Visitors Bureaus (now the Virginia Association of Destination Marketing Organizations (VADMO) 2017 Tourism Symposium on April 2nd and 3rd at the Omni Homestead Resort in Hot Springs, Virginia.

The 2017 VIRGO awards pay tribute to individuals, groups, businesses and destination marketing organizations that significantly contribute to the Commonwealth of Virginia’s economy through tourism promotion and development. VADMO (previously VACVB) awarded Discover Prince William & Manassas in the category of Sales Manager of the Year. The award was given to Mike Stoupa, Sales Manager for the organization and honored his leading sales activities performed at the 2015 Your Military Reunion Connection (YMRC) Conference.

The Discover Prince William & Manassas Sales Department welcomed 18 military reunion planners and their guests (a total of 30 attendees) from Your Military Reunion Connection (YMRC) to the Comfort Suites Manassas. These military reunion planners represented 17 different reunion organizations and came from all across the United States. They travelled from New Jersey, Texas, North and South Carolina, Virginia, Pennsylvania, Rhode Island, Maryland, Iowa, Missouri, Delaware, Florida, Indiana, and Illinois. The majority of the planners were associated with the Navy (12 planners), however the Air Force (3 planners), Marine Corps (2 planners) and Army (1 planner) had representation as well.

After the conclusion of the YMRC conference, Mr. Stoupa received an influx of request for proposals (RFPs) and actively pursued eight overnight leads of varying sizes. Three reunion groups were booked as a direct result of the 2015 YMRC Conference accruing over $44,000 in room revenue. Mr. Stoupa’s exceptional sales skills and efforts with organizing the 2015 YMRC Conference were palpable in the subsequent economic impact it had on tourism in Prince William & Manassas.
