Rebuilding Together Atlanta Celebrates 25 Years of Safe and Healthy Homes
Local Non-Profit Rehabs 25 Low-Income Homes in Commemoration of Its Anniversary
Atlanta, GA, July 13, 2017 --(PR.com)-- Rebuilding Together Atlanta (RTA), a non-profit organization striving to preserve and revitalize low-income homes in metro Atlanta, today announces the milestone of its 25th Anniversary. RTA, organized locally in 1992, is part of the national Rebuilding Together network, a leading non-profit in safe and healthy housing that provides low-income homeowners with critical home repairs. In honor of its silver anniversary, RTA is revitalizing 25 Atlanta homes for 25 families, seniors and military veteran homeowners. Corporate sponsors supporting RTA’s 25 rebuilds include Fannie Mae, Sears, Digitas, CBRE and Transunion.
“At RTA, we steadfastly believe that everyone deserves to live in a safe and healthy home,” says Camille Kesler, executive director of RTA. “We are so excited to honor our 25 years of service by doing what we do best – restoring 25 homes for deserving people in need. We honor our initiatives by providing critical home repairs, accessibility modifications and energy-efficient upgrades at no cost to each of these 25 recipients.”
RTA strives toward one day ending substandard housing in Atlanta. With the combined efforts of community-minded supporters, including volunteers and corporate sponsors, RTA facilitates necessary home repairs, such as home modifications, roofing, plumbing, painting, wall and floor repairs and more. RTA works to assure that low-income homeowners, particularly older adults, military veterans, people with disabilities and families with children, live in warmth, safety and independence. Since its inception, RTA has worked on more than 900 home projects, with a market value totaling more than $3 million. RTA leverages each dollar four times through donated materials and labor, providing significant renovations at no cost to the homeowner.
A recent RTA home project included a rebuild for Mary Smith in southwest Atlanta’s Fairway Acres neighborhood. Ms. Smith purchased her home in 1970 and has raised five children as a single mother there. Now, at the age of 77, living on her own on a low, fixed income, Ms. Smith finds it difficult to afford critical, needed repairs in her home. With the sponsorship and support of partner Digitas LBi and their nearly 50 volunteers, RTA repaired major plumbing issues in the bathroom, replaced the hazardous flooring in the kitchen and performed exterior improvements, such as repairing and painting the home’s exterior façade and landscaping work. Ms. Smith, pointing to the impact RTA has had on her life by revitalizing her home, says, “I honestly feel like God sent [Rebuilding Together Atlanta]. It is a blessing to see an entire office come repair my home. I really appreciate it.”
