Fiske Lauds St. Lawrence University’s Location, Facilities and Opportunities
Canton, NY, July 17, 2017 --(PR.com)-- St. Lawrence University has once again been selected for inclusion in Fiske’s Guide to Colleges, the annual list of colleges and universities that offer the best academic experience for an affordable price.
The 2018 guidebook – which became available on July 11 and is online at CollegeCountdown.com – highlights St. Lawrence’s classical liberal arts education, small class sizes and team-teaching approach, and its campus facilities, stating, “The campus is almost as breathtaking as the natural beauty that surrounds it.”
Fiske focuses attention on the First-Year Program, calling it a “national model” for creating a living-learning environment. It also highlights how more than half of St. Lawrence students study abroad for a semester or more at one of the University’s 24 international programs in 19 countries or at one of its domestic programs, such as the Liberal Arts in New York City, The Washington Center program in Washington, D.C., the Adirondack Semester and the Sustainability Program. The guide references the University Fellowship Program, which offers 25 to 30 students housing and stipends for summer research, as well as the Collegiate Science and Technology Entry Program (CSTEP), the Ronald E. McNair Scholars Program, and its partnership with New York’s Higher Educational Opportunities Program (HEOP).
Fiske says readers will discover the real personality of St. Lawrence based on a broad range of subjects, including student body, academics, social life, financial aid, campus setting, housing, food and extracurricular activities.
“Rankings and college guidebooks only tell you one part of the St. Lawrence University story,” said President William L. Fox. “The true Laurentian experience comes with the active and engaged student community living on our historic and scenic campus, learning from faculty who are dedicated to academic rigor, and connecting with our accomplished and loyal alumni who want to see future generations of Laurentians succeed in their own right. That said, it is reassuring to read in these college guides, which rely heavily on direct student comments as well as statistical data, that there is widespread recognition St. Lawrence is living up to its high standards of delivering a complete liberal arts education.”
Earlier this year, St. Lawrence was named a top 25 Impact School in The Princeton Review’s 2017 edition of Colleges That Pay You Back: The 200 Schools That Give You the Best Bang for Your Tuition Buck. The ranking was based on student survey responses to questions covering community service opportunities, student government, sustainability efforts and on-campus student engagement.
Colleges That Pay You Back also ranked St. Lawrence No. 7 for having the "Best Alumni Network" based on students’ ratings of alumni activity and visibility on campus. According to a 2016 Career Services’ Follow Up Survey, nearly 97 percent of recent St. Lawrence University graduates were either employed or attending graduate school less than one year after graduation with many indicating they had found employment as a result of connections with alumni and parents. And for a second time, The Princeton Review selected St. Lawrence as one of only 50 schools included in the second edition of its Colleges That Create Futures, which was released in May.
In December, Kiplinger’s Personal Finance included St. Lawrence University on its list of the Top 300 Best College Values of 2017. Last October, The Princeton Review included St. Lawrence in its Guide to 361 Green Colleges, and Niche.com called St. Lawrence one of the best campuses in New York State.
