American Law Society Recognizes Lawrence J. Altman
The American Law Society Board of Directors is proud to announce that Lawrence J. Altman has been accepted as a new member with ATL distinction. The America's Top Lawyers list is comprised of well-rounded individuals representing a diverse cross-section of U.S. legal advocates
Overland Park, KS, July 25, 2017 --(PR.com)-- Lawrence J. Altman is an adjunct professor at Avila University in Kansas City, Missouri. Mr. Altman also serves as the Title IX and Legal Development counsel for IntegraED, a company that provides prevention and management tools for bullying, harassment and violence in schools.
Until he retired in January of 2016, Mr. Altman was the Special Education Lead Attorney and Compliance Officer for Kansas City Public Schools and the Title IX Coordinator for the Kansas City School District. Prior to that position, he was a practicing attorney in St. Louis County for 34 years. His two areas of focus through his law career were assistance for children with special needs who qualified for services under the federal Individuals with Disabilities Act and those needing accommodations under Section 504.
The Annie Malone Children and Family Service Center in St. Louis named Mr. Altman one of their Advocates of the Year. His tireless efforts on behalf of children also spurred the National School Board Association to appoint him to the in-house school counsel committee of the Council of School Attorneys Association (2015).
Mr. Altman has also served as an active mentor in the Missouri Lawyers Assistance Program, where he was awarded the Warren Welliver Award. He was appointed by the Missouri Bar to serve as chairperson for its Joint Task Force on Lawyers Helping Lawyers and as the co-chair Missouri Lawyer’s Assistance Program. In 2015, the American Bar Association appointed him to serve on the Commission on Lawyer Assistance Program’s Senior Lawyer Committee.
Mr. Altman is an accomplished speaker and author with over 35 presentations and 13 published articles concerning timely topics in the legal profession. His first book, “From Bullying to Sexual Violence” was published in the fall of 2016.
