Fifteen-year-old Toby Garrison continues to blame himself for his mother's death a few months ago. Now, after forcing Toby to move with him from New York City to his small hometown of Misty Falls, his father disappears.
Quentin Ballard, the pompous town sheriff, has a history with Toby’s dad and refuses to conduct a real investigation, insisting that he’s just on a ‘weekend bender’ and will return in a few days with his tail between his legs.
Just hours after reporting the disappearance to Ballard, resident thugs—Theo and Nate—break into the Garrison house in the middle of the night. They beat Toby, threatening that if he doesn’t give them ‘the pictures’, the next beating will be far worse. But he has no idea what pictures they’re talking about.
Toby now lives in constant fear and round-the-clock vigilance. By day, he asks around town about his dad; by night, he barricades himself in his bedroom, too afraid to sleep. Ten days later, the cupboards are bare and Stephen Garrison is still missing.
Who can Toby trust in this tangled web of conspiracy?

Ellen Boyd is an author/screenwriter from Halifax, Nova Scotia. In August 2007, she graduated from Vancouver Film School with a diploma from their Screenwriting for Film and Television program. During her time at VFS, she learned many things about character and structure which carried over to help her immensely in every avenue of her writing.
‘Pride Be Damned’ is her first published novel, as well as the first book in Ellen’s series ‘The Toby Garrison Chronicles’.
In terms of her screenwriting, Ellen has one completed feature script entitled ‘Save You’, two TV spec scripts—one for Supernatural and one for the new MacGyver reboot series—and two produced student short films. Another short film, which she wrote/directed/produced herself entitled ‘The Defining Moment’, is currently in post-production.
