Oaks of Rockford Unites Siblings After 50 Years of Separation
Rockford, MI, September 17, 2017 --(PR.com)-- Oaks of Rockford, a premier 55+ active lifestyle community, proudly announced the reunion of long lost siblings after the two recently became neighbors at the premier 55+ active lifestyle community.
Setting the stage for the reunion, Phillip Osborn and his wife moved into the community from Florida early last month to be closer to their children. Unbeknownst to Mr. Osborn, living directly behind him was Marilyn Meyers, a younger half-sister that he never knew he had.
Prior to Mr. Osborn’s arrival at the community, the adopted-at-birth Mrs. Meyers joked to friends that her long lost brother was moving in after learning that her soon-to-be neighbor shared the same last name as her birth mother, Clarice Osborn. Fast forward to Wednesday, August 16 when Mrs. Meyers, through a series of questions posed to Mr. Osborn’s wife over introductory coffee, deduced that he was, in fact, her sibling.
“I knew that my birth mother had two children, Teddy and Mary Jane, who were with her as my adoptive parents and grandmother took care of them until I was born,” shared Mrs. Meyers. “I did not know, however, that Phillip and three of his other siblings had been left behind in a foster home when she left Muskegon, MI for my adoptive parents’ home town of Wyandotte, MI.”
She continued, “When I met Phillip’s wife Marilou the other morning, I figured it wouldn’t hurt to ask about her husband’s family and we quickly discovered that his mother’s name was indeed Clarice and that two of his five siblings were named Teddy and Mary Jane. Having lost her husband when Phillip was 2, Clarice kept her pregnancy a secret from him and his siblings so he had no idea that I actually existed until a few days ago!”
Since the unexpected reunion, Mr. Osborn has already introduced his children to his new sister and plans are in place to meet the rest of their newly extended families.
Commenting on the one-in-a-million reunion, Oaks of Rockford’s Developing Partner Brian Fannon, noted, “Oaks of Rockford is a true community in every sense of the word and, as such, our residents and staff do feel as though they are part of one big family. Never in our wildest dreams, though, could we have expected actual long lost relatives to end up living next to each other and discovering their relationship over coffee in our clubhouse!”
