Top Shore Bands to Prove "TS Rocks" in Atlantic Highlands
October 1st concert and auction to benefit the New Jersey Center for Tourette Syndrome.
Somerville, NJ, September 17, 2017 --(PR.com)-- A group of big-hearted rock fans in Monmouth County are using the joy of music to combat the stigma attached to Tourette Syndrome.
Together, they’ve gathered some of the Jersey Shore’s most popular acts including Bobby Bandiera, Bethanne Clayton Band, Moroccan Sheepherders, Carl Gentry Band and Taylor Tote Music, to play TS Rocks a family concert on Sunday, October 1 from 1-6 p.m. at the Charles Hesse Parish Center in Atlantic Highlands. All proceeds from the concert and silent auction will benefit the New Jersey Center for Tourette Syndrome and Associated Disorders (NJCTS).
“For me, music has always helped me in all the chapters of my life,” said event organizer Kathie Sterzinar of Red Bank who has a nephew with the disorder. “I hope that music will help to bring awareness and comfort to my brother’s family and all whom Tourette Syndrome has impacted.”
Tourette Syndrome (TS) is a neurological disorder characterized by involuntary movements or sounds known as tics. As many as 1 in 100 children show symptoms of TS, which is frequently accompanied by learning disabilities, attention deficit issues, obsessive-compulsive disorder, and mental health conditions. Despite its prevalence, children and families living with TS report significant stigma and a lack of understanding of the disorder.
The name, TS Rocks, was first coined by a young member of NJCTS in gratitude for the skills she learned at a self-advocacy training. Organizers hope it becomes a day of hope and awareness.
“We welcome the community to join us in creating positive awareness and support for the tens of thousands of New Jersey’s kids with Tourette Syndrome and our work in guiding them into a new generation of leaders,” said NJCTS Executive Director Faith W. Rice.
In addition to music, concert goers will enjoy food, drinks, a 50/50, and a live and silent auction featuring travel stays, professional services, event tickets, sporting equipment, restaurant gift certificates and much more. New Jersey 101.5 FM’s Big Joe Henry will be there along with plenty of surprises.
Tickets are $30 in advance ($20 in advance for 18 year olds and under) and available through bit.ly/TSRocks. Tickets sold at the door will be $35 for all ages.
TS Rocks is sponsored by John Comas and Bank of America, Glenmede and Bayshore Recycling. For more information call NJCTS at 908-575-7350.
