Colin Hurley's Cubism

Colin Hurley didn't create cubism and never will. But why not, for the sake of fun, just take the idea and own it? Art is everything right? This is Colin's first solo art show in ten years.
Berkeley, CA, September 26, 2017 --(PR.com)-- Colin Hurley is an artist. For the past year, he has worked with Tom Franco, and James Franco on a project by flying back and forth to Phoenix, Arizona to paint an installation art piece. It’s called “Pipe Brothers: Tom and James Franco.” What it is is a bunch of giant pipes that usually are used for the sewer, except the group decided to sculpt into the clay of these and then paint on them. What they painted was based on plans made by Tom and James. A lot of publications have been covering this event, including Out Magazine, artnet News, and W Magazine. The reception was in early September.
Colin Hurley has run many shows. For the last three years he did a successful cat-themed art show at Lottie Rose Art Gallery in Oakland. They were “Let’s Hear It For The Cat!,” “the cat pARTy,” and “Feline Trouble.” He’s also done a lot of solo shows. One that got a write up in CSU East Bay’s newspaper was called “Colin, Cats, and Flamingos.” Colin’s art tends to obsess on cats, by the way. His latest solo show, though, is called “Colin Hurley’s Cubism!”
Other than painting, Colin has explored what art is and has found himself in other places as well. In 2015, Colin dressed in drag to perform in “Desire Caught By The Tail.” It was an absurdist play written by Picasso. Colin was the villain. The event played five times to packed crowds.
“When a person looks in the mirror, that person usually sees something different than what the rest of the world sees. But the nice thing about painting is when you paint something, it’s just there.” Colin frequently explains when he’s asked about his acting.
The year following the play, Colin went to Hollywood. Literally. Colin in 2016, got to work on the art for a Elysium-Bandini movie called “Metamorphosis: Junior Year.”
The movie follows a artist trying to find out who he is in his Palo Alto high school. Strangely, it was Colin’s junior year in high school when he decided to start painting. Before Colin was 15, he felt pathetic. He had no friends and he hated his life. Then at this point, slightly after 15, he decided it was time to be dignified and do positivity. He got in shape, improved his posture, and started painting. Ever since then he has worked a lot of jobs, got an Associates Degree from Las Positas College, and painted thousands of paintings which are either in his storage or sold.
For the past four years, Colin has lived in a “art house”. It’s part of Firehouse Art Collective which is run by Tom Franco. In these four years Colin has had a lot of wacky adventures. He has decided through all of it is to produce a sitcom based on everything. It’s going to be called “Art Is Everything”. It’s going to be a group of claymated cats who have no problems, so they live their lives solely for the idea of pleasure which of course is art. A lot of stuff happens. And there’s laugh tracks.
Anyhow, that’s who Colin Hurley is. He’s not purr-fect, but he paints.
