Adelphi Orchestra 2017-18 Season Opening: “German Giants Young Artist Showcase
Featuring Violin Soloist Xiaoxuan Shi; Beethoven, Wagner, Mendelssohn, And Schubert; At River Dell Regional Middle School Auditorium in New Jersey October 22 2017
River Edge, NJ, September 26, 2017 --(PR.com)-- The Adelphi Orchestra, now in its 64th season of Music for All, presents “German Giants - Young Artist Showcase” opens its 2017-18 season on Sunday October 22nd at 4PM, River Dell Regional Middle School Auditorium with an emphasis on their long standing young artist initiative.
The orchestra will perform works by Beethoven, Wagner, Mendelssohn, and Schubert under the baton of Principal Conductor Richard Owen. The program will showcase violin prodigy Xiaoxuan Shi, 1st place winner of the Adelphi Orchestra’s 2017 Young Artist Competition, in Mendelssohn’s Concerto for Violin in E minor. The concert will also include German masterpieces, Beethoven’s Coriolan Overture, Wagner’s Siegfried: Waldweben, and Schubert’s Symphony no 8 in B minor, D 759 “Unfinished.”
Artists
Violinist Xiaoxuan Shi is currently pursuing her Master’s degree at the Juilliard School, where she studies with Catherine Cho. In 2016, Xiaoxuan received her Bachelor’s Degree from Yong Siew Toh Conservatory of Music, National University of Singapore, where she studies with Prof. Qian Zhou. She won numerous competitions including the 1st Prize of the VIVO-S International Music Competition in 2017, the 1st Prize of the Conservatory Concerto Competition (Violin category) and the 1st Prize of the Singapore.
National Violin and Piano Competition (Artist category) in 2013, and the 3rd Prize of the China National Youth Violin Competition (Junior category) in 2009. Her solo appearances include performances with the Metropolitan Festival Orchestra, Yong Siew Toh Conservatory Orchestra and YST String Chamber Ensemble.

The Adelphi Orchestra is a professional, non-profit orchestra performing symphonic, chamber, operatic and dance concerts.
