Women’s Empowerment Nonprofit Celebrates 10 Years with Territory Expansion and Name Change
Dress for Success Mercer County will become Dress for Success Central New Jersey
Lawrenceville, NJ, October 05, 2017 --(PR.com)-- After 10 years of empowering women and girls in Mercer County, Dress for Success Mercer County (DFSMC) is excited to announce its expansion and will now provide services in Burlington, Middlesex, Monmouth, Ocean and parts of Hunterdon and Somerset counties. The organization will change its name to Dress for Success Central New Jersey- 7 Counties and will officially announce it at its Cocktails for a Cause event on October 26th.
“We are thrilled to begin this next chapter,” said Melissa Tenzer, Executive Director of Dress for Success Central New Jersey. “Helping women gain confidence to reach for dreams and achieve economic independence is the core of our mission. Having the ability to serve even more women and girls fills me with such joy and hope for their future. At Dress for Success, we believe, leadership is born when women are given the tools to succeed.”
With nearly two years under her belt as Executive Director, Tenzer has tripled the number of DFSMC's programs and services offered. Since her appointment the organization has had a 72% growth in the number of women served. With eight highly successful programs and services in place, DFSMC has filled an educational gap and solidified the organization as a leader in full range career services; and surrounding area agencies have taken notice. With a solid footprint in Mercer County, Tenzer and her Board of Directors decided it was time to make an even greater impact. “We have been receiving phone calls from agencies in neighboring counties,” says Tenzer. “The demand is so great, we felt it was imperative to heed the call and expand our services beyond Greater Mercer County.”
Founded with $50,000 seed money provided by Bristol-Myers Squibb in 2007, over the past decade, the non-profit organization has impacted the lives of more than 5,000 women and girls.
“Bristol-Myers Squibb raised corporate responsibility to a new level ten years ago when it provided staff and financial resources to launch a Dress for Success affiliate to help unemployed women in Mercer County get jobs and achieve economic independence,” says DFSMC founding Board Member, Jayne O’Connor. “It was an extraordinarily unique philanthropic endeavor that is emblematic of how invested the company is in the communities where its employees live and work. I hope the company takes great pride today knowing that it has helped thousands of women.”
Not designed to operate as an employment agency, DFS was established to serve as a conduit to education, resources and support in helping disadvantaged women improve their chances of obtaining and retaining employment. Last year, DFSMC saw 1,020 women, with this expansion, Dress for Success Central New Jersey will have the ability to provide even more women and girls with the tools and knowledge to secure meaningful employment.
Tenzer states, “Through education, mentorship and support Dress for Success helps women build their confidence from the inside out.”
The name change, and celebration of Dress for Success Central New Jersey’s 10-year anniversary, will be commemorated at the organization’s annual Cocktails for a Cause event scheduled for October 26th at Greenacres Country Club in Lawrenceville, NJ. This fundraising event is held each year to raise awareness and funds for the programs and services provided by the organization. At this year’s Cocktails for a Cause, Dress for Success Central New Jersey will be honoring Eric E. Jackson, Mayor of the City of Trenton; Wells Fargo; and Princeton Area Community Foundation. Additionally, presentations will be made by Dress for Success Central New Jersey Success Ambassadors.
“The compelling stories of the women we serve is always a highlight of any Dress for Success event,” says Tenzer. “The community needs to hear about the difficulties and ultimate triumph of our clients. By the end, there usually is not a dry eye in the house. We all rejoice in their success. Additionally, I cannot say enough about our community partners, without whom, we would not be able to provide our much needed programs and services. I must also acknowledge this year’s honorees. Each plays an integral role in continuing the mission of Dress for Success.
Individual tickets for Dress for Success Central New Jersey’s Cocktails for a Cause is $125 per person. Sponsorship and advertising opportunities are available. For more information visit https://mercercounty.dressforsuccess.org/ or call (609) 896-4112.
