College Welcomes National Citizen Service
Oswestry, United Kingdom, October 07, 2017 --(PR.com)-- North Shropshire College (NSC) recently welcomed representatives from the National Citizen Service to its campuses to talk to students about the programme. NCS has been running since 2011 and has proved popular with young people; with half a million graduating from the programme across the country to date.
The programme is run over three exciting and diverse stages; Adventure, Discovery and Social Action. This enables students to undertake a variety of activities, from outdoor adventure to workshops including Self Defence, First Aid and Apprentice style challenges, as well as their own self led Social Action project during their time with NCS giving them valuable life skills and experience.
Darren Carpenter from NCS comments “We have a Summer programme which is mainly aimed at Year 11’s plus we have an October half term programme which is specifically aimed at year 12 students, both are fantastic fun but they also aim to develop key skills that employers increasingly value. It has been great to talk to the Students at the College this week and show them the positive impact that NSC continues to have for young people and the wider community.”
Jill Cawthray Access Co-ordinator and Senior Tutor at NSC adds, “We were very pleased to welcome NCS to the College. The talks given were truly inspirational and showed how attending NCS camps can boost students' self-confidence and skill set whilst also having a truly amazing experience. The concept that all participants also take part in a social action project is also of immense benefit to local communities.”
