Cal Heights, Largest Historic District in Long Beach, Celebrates 16th Home and Garden Tour
Long Beach, CA, October 11, 2017 --(PR.com)-- A handful of unique homes and gardens will be open to the public during the 16th Home and Garden Tour held Sunday, October 15, 2017. The tour, held every other October, showcases the distinct character of the neighborhood, which includes Spanish Revival, Tudor, California Bungalow, and Neoclassical architecture. Designated in 1990, California Heights is the largest Historic District in Long Beach.
The Home and Garden tour draws approximately 700 visitors and serves as the primary fundraiser for the California Heights Neighborhood Association’s community projects, including street and alley cleanups, tree plantings, street signage, restoration of vintage lampposts and the recently completed mural located at the corner of Orange Avenue and Bixby Road. Local realtor Lewis Ebersole sponsors the tour, while more than 100 volunteer docents and organizers provide guests with information on the architecture and history of the homes, inspiring an appreciation for historic character and preservation.
Tour guests are encouraged to walk or bike the tour route, or ride the complimentary trolley. Self-service bike racks are provided at each destination. Businesses that specialize in restoration and preservation are stationed throughout the homes and gardens. Businesses along the Wardlow Strip and throughout Bixby Knolls will be popular post-tour destinations.
Check-in begins at 10:30 on the 3700 block of Lewis Avenue. Guest speaker Alexander Vertikoff, one of the leading photographers in the United States, will present from 2:00 pm-3:00 pm in the Hughes Middle School Auditorim, with a capacity of 445. Hughes Middle School is located at 3846 California Avenue. Tour homes and gardens are open from 11:00am-4:00pm.
