Eccella Adds a Therapy Dog to Its Dental Practice to Help Ease Dental Anxiety in Patients
Dr. Scott Wagner trained his foster Weimaraner to help ease his patient’s fears.
Jacksonville Beach, FL, October 26, 2017 --(PR.com)-- Eccella, a dental, dental-implant, Invisalign, and wellness-driven practice in Jacksonville Beach, now has a therapy dog in the office to help patients with anxiety. Shadow, a rescued Weimaraner, helps the patients feel comfortable in what can be an uncomfortable environment for some. Between 9 and 20 percent of Americans avoid going to the dentist because of anxiety or fear. Dr. Scott Wagner decided he wanted to make the experience a little less intimidating for his patients.
“My wife is very involved in the Weimaraner rescue group, The Grayter Good, and we began fostering Shadow,” said Dr. Wagner. “Shadow is just really a laidback dog and we thought he would be great as a therapy dog. We took him for training and then when he was ready, started bringing him into the office. Shadow has been a great addition to the practice and he is now getting regular requests.”
Dr. Wagner put Shadow through extensive training to become a therapy dog through a private training organization called Rescue Me. Shadow was taught how to handle all types of situations. In the office, Shadow is there for patients to stand next to those who may be having some anxiety to provide a loving secure environment for the patient. He allows the patients to pet him and will also put his head on their lap to help ease their fears.
Shadow is now in the Eccella office a few days a week. Patients can call ahead of time to request Shadow to make sure he is in the office at the time of their appointment.
