Freehold, NJ, February 24, 2008 --(PR.com)-- In his lecture on Thursday, February 21st, at the Westlake Golf and Country Club, in Jackson, New Jersey, “Preserving Your Joints,” Dr Alan Nasar stressed the vital role of adequate exercise and staying active for joint preservation to members of the Club and local community. Dr Nasar is one of the team of orthopedic surgeons from the Advanced Orthopedics and Sports Medicine Institute in Freehold, New Jersey, who will present a number of public lectures on joint health in the New Jersey communities of Freehold, Wall and Jackson from this month well into Spring.

In an hour long presentation followed by question time, Dr Nasar outlined the role and importance that physical activity plays in joint preservation and gave tips on becoming more active and how to exercise with arthritis or joint injuries. He outlined the top ten benefits that regular exercise brings, from providing arthritis relief to reducing mortality rates in both younger and older adult groups. While explaining the link to improvement in cardio health, the link to reduction of colon cancer and that of type 2 diabetes, he illustrated his main point with key statistics and provoked some lighthearted comments with his suggestions for incorporating activity into everyday routines. “Mowing your lawns with a ride-on mower doesn’t count as physical activity.” he cautioned. “There are many ways that you can increase or start exercising modestly; around the home, at the office, on family outings, at the local shopping mall. Here at the Golf course, give away that motorized cart and walk. Arthritis is the most prevalent chronic health problem in the USA, and the leading cause of disability among Americans over the age of 15. In a nut shell- physical activity helps to controls weight, contributes to healthy bones, muscles and joints, and helps greatly to relieve the pain of arthritis as well as alleviating associated symptoms such as depression.” A small crowd of locals, serious and not so serious golfers, seniors and executives, adults of all age groups, ensured a lively discussion following the presentation.
