Eden Troupe’s Newest Generation Opens with Shakespeare
Purcellville, VA, November 16, 2017 --(PR.com)-- Jane White and Spencer Reeves of Patrick Henry College make their directorial debut with Shakespeare’s The Winter’s Tale later this week. Thursday, November 16th at 7:00pm, curtains will rise for the opening night of Eden Troupe’s latest performance. Actors representing each class will participate, with several of the troupe’s newest members claiming the starring roles: Christiana Jorgenson (Hermione), Benjamin Purnell (Florizel) and Abigail Rose (Perdita).
The Winter’s Tale is one of Shakespeare’s last works, chronicling the story of Leontes, King of Sicilia, his friendship with King Polixenes of Bohemia, and his jealousy surrounding suspicion that his wife has been unfaithful to him. The show highlights the challenges of jealousy in a relationship, but offers an uplifting tale of forgiveness, reconciliation, and redemption as the plot progresses from tragedy to comedy.
“This is a story that I’ve loved since I was a kid. Some kids liked Disney princess fairy tales – I liked Shakespeare princess fairy tales,” said director Jane White.
Showings are November 16, 17, and 18, at 7:30pm (doors open at 7:00pm), with a matinee on November 19 at 2:00pm (doors open at 1:30pm). Tickets cost $10 for general admission, $8 with a valid Student or Military ID, or $6 for children under 12 and can either be purchased online or at the door. Group rates can be arranged in advance by contacting emgannage@gmail.com. The Winter’s Tale will be performed in Patrick Henry College’s Town Hall (10 Patrick Henry Circle, Purcellville, VA 20132.)
White and Reeves both have a long history with theatre production, and have each been members of Eden Troupe since their respective freshman years, but are collaborating as directors for the very first time. When the school’s board opened submissions for the Fall 2017 play, White was quick to contact other members of Eden Troupe and head up a team to produce The Winter’s Tale.
White has worked on Eden Troupe’s previous presentations of A Man for All Seasons (Alice Moore), Macbeth (Props Manager/Fight Stunt Artist/Extra), and Little Women (Stage Manager). She is currently also directing a local middle school group’s production of Anne of Green Gables. White plans to continue being actively involved with Eden Troupe for the remainder of her undergraduate program.
