Rivkin Radler Expands Practices in Banking & Tax
New York, NY, November 14, 2017 --(PR.com)-- In the face of banking deregulation and tax-code overhaul, and in response to the sophisticated needs of our clients in responding to this changing landscape, Rivkin Radler has expanded its practices to include specialized groups in Banking and Tax.
The firm has long represented clients in banking and tax-related matters. The launch of these dedicated groups comes on the heels of the firm’s merger with a firm in Albany and Poughkeepsie, and the addition of key professionals, which further broadened and deepened our capabilities in these areas.
“It makes strategic sense, at this time, for us to expand our capabilities and create dedicated practice groups in banking and tax,” said Managing Partner Evan H. Krinick. “As the regulatory climate continues to present new challenges, it is critical that we anticipate the need and be prepared to respond. The additional emphasis on Banking and Tax is reflective of our ongoing commitment to providing the full complement of legal services our clients need.”
The following are brief bios of attorneys who more recently joined those who have long worked in the areas of banking and tax:
Banking Practice:
Michael J. Heller joined the firm as a partner this week. He will be among those leading the Banking Practice Group. Michael brings considerable experience representing lending institutions on complex commercial loans, including Industrial Development Agency and Small Business Administration matters, and with private clients in real estate development and corporate transactions.
Richard Mitchell, a partner in the firm’s Poughkeepsie office, represents major banks in bankruptcy and other cases throughout New York.
Stacey Goldstein, counsel to the firm’s Albany office, focuses her practice on the representation of businesses in loan transactions. She also has experience in mortgage and asset-based financing for both for-profit and not-for-profit entities.
Tax Practice:
Katherine A. Heptig, who specializes in transactional tax law and executive compensation, joined the firm as a partner last year. Kate earned her LLM in ERISA/employee benefits matters. She advises businesses in connection with mergers and acquisitions, tax-free spinoffs; business succession planning; corporate governance; commercial contracts; and audit and other tax controversy matters, among other issues.
Karen Sosler, a partner in the firm’s Albany office, represents tax-exempt organizations from initial exemption applications from federal and state taxes to advisement on other issues such as private inurement and private benefit, excess benefit transactions, the IRS’ intermediate sanction regulations, executive compensation, completion of Form 990, the rules on tax-exempt bond financed properties, conflict of interest policies and other “good governance” practices for tax-exempt organizations.
