Two Struggling Writers Could Make Millions Selling Every Word in Their Novel Online

Two unpublished novelists are poised to make over $6,000,000 by selling the words of their novel online at www.sixmilliondollarnovel.com.

Toronto, Canada, February 26, 2008 --(PR.com)-- Two unpublished novelists are poised to make over $6,000,000 by selling the words of their novel online at www.sixmilliondollarnovel.com.

Rather than fight the uphill battle of getting a new novel published, authors Ryan Smith and Andrew MacMillan invented a way to freely distribute their novel on the Internet while offering each of its words for sale. At the price of $100 per appearance in the novel, the over 60,000 words of the novel could fetch the duo a cool six million, if the idea takes off.

Businesses and Web sites can advertise in the Six Million Dollar Novel by buying a word. All appearances of a sold word display a mouse-over description of the buyer's Web site or product, and are linked to the buyer's site.

"Readers can read the novel for free, and advertisers can buy words in the novel to reach those readers. Everyone gets something out of it," says Ryan.

The pair are publishing the thirty chapters of their coauthored novel in series, with a new chapter going online each week. The site also includes a continuously updated list of the available words in the novel with the price of each word being calculated according to how many times the word has been used in the novel so far. Once a word is purchased, the owner also gets their link and description on all future occurrences of that word at no additional cost.

"We're publishing the novel serially in order to get the ball rolling. Each chapter only has about 2,000 words, so common words like 'a' and 'the' are much cheaper at the beginning. As we add more chapters, the price of repeated words will increase. So there is an incentive to get in early," explains Andrew.

Ryan and Andrew thought of selling their words while brainstorming ways to make money from their novel in the likely event that they couldn't find a publisher.

"At first we just planned to run regular Web site ads along the margins of the story, but then we realized we could make the experience so much more interesting by selling the actual words of the novel," says Andrew. "It's like some weird kind of product placement."

Confident in their idea, the pair have also applied for patent protection and have formed a company, in the hope of later expanding with future novels.
