Dynamic Duo Pair Prose, Art to Help Women Navigate Their Menopausal Journey
Dog Ear Publishing reviews a new book that helps women learn to deal with menopause and all its symptoms with meditation, relaxation, laughter and insight.
Charlotte, NC, December 01, 2017 --(PR.com)-- Menopause is a rite of passage for women, but not everyone experiences it in the same way. Two women have teamed up to share real thoughts about this universal biological and psychological experience. They express those thoughts in beautiful words and artwork in a new book released by Dog Ear Publishing.
“MENO-Vations, a.k.a. Menopause Motivations: Helping to Color Your Menopause Perspective with Art and Attitude” aims to share real thoughts about menopause, offer suggestions on how to cope with its symptoms, and encourage personal reflection.
“MENO-Vations” creators, author Cynthia King and artist Angela Walker, had talked about collaborating on a project for a long time. As they grew older and began experiencing menopause for themselves, they shared experiences with friends. Their talks led to the book, which they created “as a way of including even more women and further encouraging positive thought, conversation, and fellowship around the common bond and experience of going through menopause.”
No subject is taboo: The book takes on body temperature, weight gain, hot flashes, sleeplessness, night sweats, incontinence, dryness in intimate places and brain fog. The meditations, reflections and accompanying artwork are designed to help women mindfully deal with symptoms so they feel in control rather than being controlled by symptoms.
Each entry provides a thought, a positive or practical action to take, a key phrase to concentrate on and space for reflection, as well as stunning artwork in a variety of mediums to provoke additional thoughts and feelings. The overall feeling of positivity shines through the words and art to provide a boost for those journeying through menopause.
King loves to write poetry and short stories. She has worked as a sales manager for consumer products and actively supports nonprofit and community organizations focusing on women’s health, nutrition and wellness, youth empowerment, and the arts. King believes life should be filled with positivity, laughter and love. The Detroit native currently resides in Charlotte, N.C. Her writing has been shared in literary magazines and art websites.
Walker weaves poetry into many of her art projects, incorporating a range of media and techniques that abound with texture, color and expression using common materials and found objects. Although formally trained as an engineer, she is living her passion through art and the spoken word. Walker’s art has been featured in several group shows across the country, and she had a one-woman show in the mid 1990s. She is a published poet, and her work has been featured in various online publications including Pink Panther Magazine.
