Altia Teams Up with Renesas to Deliver 3D Instrument Cluster Graphics on R-Car H3 for CES 2018

The Renesas Connected Cockpit Vehicle Will Feature Altia Graphics in Cluster and Center Stack Running on an R-Car H3 at the 2018 Consumer Electronics Show.

Colorado Springs, CO, December 23, 2017 --(PR.com)-- Altia has collaborated with Renesas Electronics Corporation, a premier supplier of advanced semiconductor solutions, to develop a consolidated cockpit module for the Renesas Connected Cockpit Vehicle, which Renesas will feature at CES 2018. This consolidated cockpit module includes a single Renesas R-Car H3 Salvator-X board running both an Altia-generated 3D instrument cluster and Android-based center stack with Altia graphics featured as the primary demo control interface.

“By partnering on advanced development of the code generator software in cadence with the availability of R-Car H3 hardware, Altia and Renesas offer our customers the chance to better innovate their next-generation embedded displays,” stated Lynwood Stanley, Vice President of Services for Altia. “Automotive OEMs and Tier 1s have the opportunity to leverage a proven HMI solution that is tailored to the very latest hardware technology.”

The Renesas R-Car H3 system-on-chip (SoC) provides a powerful mix of features and functionality for automotive cockpit applications. The R-Car H3 utilizes an Arm® Cortex®-A57 1.5 GHz quad core, an Arm® Cortex®-A53 1.2 GHz quad core and an IMG PowerVR Series6XT GX6650 GPU running at 600MHz. This architecture provides an impressive combination of power, performance and efficiency for HMI applications. As the R-Car H3 SoC complies with the ISO 26262 (ASIL-B) functionality safety standard for automotive, this automotive computing platform is well-suited to hosting mission-critical code like that which runs on instrument clusters and ADAS systems.

The centerpiece of the demo is undoubtedly the eye-catching full TFT cluster that is loaded with 3D content, including dynamic gauges, ADAS content and an animated truck. These models were imported directly from Maya and range in size from 10K polygons to over 100K polygons. Additionally, they feature rich textures up to one million pixels. Finally, custom GLSL shaders were used to create stunning weather effects in the ADAS system.

The center stack – also loaded with graphics – is a particularly interesting technical integration that takes full advantage of Altia’s Layer Manager to work across both Green Hills INTEGRITY® and Android™. Altia is running as the primary demo controller in a fail-safe mode, managing back-up camera, overall demo mode and pass-through of infotainment data provided by Android. This multiple screen, multiple operating system platform is a familiar scenario for Altia and Renesas customers.

“Working with Altia on this project has allowed us to experience products as our customers do – integrating hardware, software and graphics across different teams and diverse organizations. The fact that we were able to collaborate so efficiently and have such a positive, trouble-free engagement speaks volumes about the power of our respective solutions. Renesas is committed to providing best-in-class automotive solutions; successful partnerships with companies like Altia affirm our desired position in the market,” said Craig Johnson, Director, Automotive Advanced Systems Innovation Department, Automotive System Business Division at Renesas.

The Renesas Connected Cockpit Vehicle will be on display January 9-12, 2018 at CES 2018 at the Las Vegas Convention Center North Plaza. For more information about Altia’s HMI solution for Renesas R-Car H3, visit www.altia.com or email info@altia.com.
