Sixth District Candidate Ken Cope Vows to Fight High Speed Rail Project

Arlington, TX, December 24, 2017 --(PR.com)-- Ken Cope, Republican candidate for U.S. Representative in the Sixth District, today came out swinging against the Texas High Speed Rail Bullet Train project. He vowed to fight it in Washington if elected and promised to host a series of local meetings to galvanize opposition.

“As your U.S. representative, I will work to limit the availability of any federal funds for the HSR project and will work with my fellow representatives to do all we can to keep this project from advancing,” Cope said in the statement. “I will put my leadership skills to good use in battling this ill-conceived scheme.”

He criticized the environmental damage that a four-mile-wide swath of construction for the rail line would cause not only in Ellis and Navarro counties in the Sixth District, but in other counties between Dallas and Houston.

Cope also criticized ridership projections for the train, asserting that taxpayer-financed subsidies in the form of property tax increases in Tarrant, Ellis, and Navarro counties would be needed permanently. He also warned of abuse of the eminent domain power of the state to benefit a foreign-owned public-private partnership entity.

Cope is a retired U.S. Army Lieutenant Colonel and retired aerospace executive who is seeking the Congressional seat being vacated by Joe Barton.
