The game will be played on Saturday, January 20, 2018 at Tropicana Field in St. Petersburg, Florida. Kick-off is at 3 p.m. (ET).
The East-West Shrine Game is a showcase for up-and-coming NFL talent as national media and scouts from every professional team spend the week in St. Petersburg to review the players. More than 90 players from last year’s game were invited to NFL training camps, and more than 70 made NFL rosters. Any given season there are about 300 East-West alumni on NFL rosters. Since the game’s inception, 74 former players have been inducted into the Pro Football Hall of Fame and more than 200 alumni have been named to the College Football Hall of Fame.
“This is the 93rd East-West Shrine Game, making it the longest running college all-star game in the country,” said Harold Richardson, Executive Director of the game. “This is our seventh year in Tampa Bay and community support for the game has grown here each year. This is a great family event that supports Shriners Hospitals for Children®.”
More than just a game, since 1925, the East-West Shrine Game has helped raise money and awareness for Shriners Hospitals for Children, a health care system with 22 locations dedicated to improving the lives of children by providing pediatric specialty care, innovative research, and outstanding teaching programs for medical professionals. Children up to age 18 with orthopedic conditions, burns, spinal cord injuries, and cleft lip and palate are eligible for care and receive all services in a family-centered environment, regardless of the families’ ability to pay.
The game is broadcast live nationally on the NFL Television Network, on over one hundred over-the-air radio stations coast to coast, SiriusXM NFL Channel 88, and Tampa Bay’s “Flagship Station” is “Sports Talk Florida” WHBO 1040 AM.
