Six-Time Cancer Survivor Shares Practice Advice, Hope with Others Facing Medical Battles
Dog Ear Publishing reviews a new book that explores how one man’s faith, along with help from a research hospital, helped a family man survive cancer again and again.
New Braunfels, TX, February 02, 2018 --(PR.com)-- Gene Burnell knows what he’s talking about when it comes to speaking with those who have a cancer diagnosis: He has survived having cancer not once but six times since first being diagnosed with cancer at age 39. He shares his experiences of survival and the tools that helped him along the way in a new book released by Dog Ear Publishing.
In “Conquering a Relentless Cancer with God by My Side,” Burnell describes how his faith in God, as well as a positive attitude and expressing his deepest thoughts in writing helped him conquer Non-Hodgkin’s Lymphoma six times. The book includes Bible verses as well as practical advice for overcoming great challenges when health issues turn into battles and the importance of maintaining a positive attitude despite hearing bad news.
At the time of his first cancer diagnosis, the author was 39 years old and had children who were 8, 10 and 12. They had just moved to Texas for a new job opportunity and were 500 miles away from family. Luckily dear friends had already scheduled a trip and were on hand to provide support to the couple. Finding wonderful medical professionals at Sanoviv Medical Institute eventually and alternative treatments also helped greatly with treating Burnell’s cancer.
Part memoir and part self-help guide, the book aims to help others through some of the toughest times they may face in their life with grace and hope. In the end, however, even if the patient loses the battle to the disease, the author believes winning is still possible. “Anyone who is facing a potentially terminal diagnosis, and chooses to live life to the fullest, and goes out fighting, is a winner,” he writes in the introduction.
Burnell is a family man, and he and his wife, Gwen, have been married for more than 43 years. They have two sons and a daughter, as well as five grandchildren. He worked as a software developer and development manager and continues to work as a project manager.
