Raptors Return to the Hood in New Film by Director Kevin Brooks
Brooks idea for the story came after witnessing so much civil unrest in the United States over the past couple of years.
Burbank, CA, February 07, 2018 --(PR.com)-- AlphaDogs is pleased to announce completion of post-production work on the new film Raptors. Written and Directed by Kevin Brooks, the story follows two long time friends. Cedric, a TV producer and Terrence, a lawyer, who’ve made it out of the hood but return to confront a local street thug that’s become a nuisance to Cedric’s grandmother and neighbors. In dealing with the problems, both are forced to deal with the unforeseen consequences of their actions.
Brooks idea for the story came after witnessing so much civil unrest in the United States over the past couple of years. “The media only reports snippets of what’s happening out there,” said Brooks. “Many times people are painted in a very bad light, without the whole story being told. There are many reasons behind why things happen the way they do.”
Shot entirely on location in Los Angeles and Pasadena, Raptors was shot in just 7 days using the RED Epic. Brooks comments, “One of the biggest challenges with the film was the extremely short production schedule. Having a very organized and talented team was crucial to our success.”
“RED cameras give us a lot to work with,” said Terence Curren, colorist at AlphaDogs. “This really helped, as the tight shooting schedule didn’t allow a lot of time for lighting. Going back to the RAW Red camera files allows for a wider range of exposure options and color balance adjustments. It also allowed me to easily cheat some of the footage shot after dusk to match scenes earlier in the day.”
AlphaDogs Audio Engineer Curtis Fritsch was in charge of the post audio for the film. Being a dialog-driven story, noise reduction was a big concern. By using a combination of CEDAR and Izotope plug ins, Fritsch was able to suppress any unwanted background noises. Since the film was shot entirely on location, another important aspect was making all of the audio recorded on location sound seamless from shot to shot. Fritsch explains, “In situations like this, we would create a looped background to hide the transitions. But since some of the takes were more than a few minutes long, the ambient background sound would become more noticeable if it was just a simple loop.”
“I really enjoyed working with AlphaDogs,” said Brooks. “I was very impressed by their professionalism and in making me feel as though I was a big time filmmaker. The work they did on both the color and audio really took my film to the next level.”
Brooks hopes after audiences watch Raptors they will be able to look at the issues raised in the story from a different perspective. “With so much judgment and stereotyping out there these days, I hope Raptors will inspire people to take a closer look at the problems plaguing our country, many of which are created by the media. It’s important to question things, rather than just taking them at face value.”
Raptors will premiere later this year. For more information and screening dates and locations visit http://www.jerseymadefilms.com
