200,000+ Pennsylvanians Know What 2-1-1 Does - FSA-NEPA and Get Involved Want You to Know Too
Sunday, February 11, 2018 is 2-1-1 Day to Celebrate Human Life Service Line.
Wilkes-Barre, PA, February 11, 2018 --(PR.com)-- Family Service Association of Northeastern Pennsylvania and Get Involved Company are partnering to spread the news about United Way’s 2-1-1 Day on February 11, 2018. The purpose of 2-1-1 Day is to celebrate the help line service and encourage more people to utilize the resources available to them.
2-1-1 service’s purpose, which launched by United Way over 20 years ago in Atlanta, is to connect people in need to health and human service assistance available through government programs and private non-profit organizations in their communities. It is a free, confidential, 24-hour information and referral service that connects 97 percent of Pennsylvanians with all the health and human services available to help. In 2017, over 199,000 Pennsylvanians turned to 2-1-1 for help.
The Family Service Association of Northeastern Pennsylvania and its members have administered the 2-1-1 services in the Northeastern Pennsylvania. Individuals and families in the Wilkes-Barre area can call 2-1-1 for basic needs like heating or utility, eldercare, or to find the closest food bank. Additional services include referrals to services such as: child development screening, job training, and free tax filing support.
“When you call 2-1-1, the carefully trained specialists will listen to you, ask appropriate questions, and refer you to the human services that will best serve your needs,” explained Thomas Foley, Director of the Help Line and 2-1-1 services at FSA-NEPA. “It’s a valuable, free service to everyone in our area and we’re encouraging anyone who needs help to call.”
