New Children’s Book by Melissa Mullamphy Features Boy, His Beloved Canine Companion
“Me, My Dog and a Sheep,” a new children’s book released by Dog Ear Publishing, shares the story of the deep love between a boy and his beloved dog – a love that grows stronger after the dog develops a serious disease.

Luke loves his puppy Grizzy, a big dog with an even bigger heart who comes to live with Luke when he was 2 years old. Luke and Grizzy do everything together until Luke starts kindergarten when Grizzy begins having trouble getting up. Grizzy has surgery, but it doesn’t help, and Grizzy is unable to move his legs. A special clinic offers some treatment options, but Grizzy has to live there for six months. Luke visits Grizzy, and they must work together – with help from the caring professionals at the clinic – to beat the odds and help Grizzy learn to walk again.
Based on a true story, and featuring boldly drawn illustrations by Andrew Thomas, “Me, My Dog and a Sheep,” author Melissa Mullamphy describes the love, grit, and determination her family experienced during Grizzy’s journey and highlights the bond between a boy and his dog. The story offers a gentle lesson on a tough subject – a pet diagnosed with a severe and potentially life-threatening disease – that perseverance and love is the most important medicine of all.
Mullamphy has a master’s degree in counseling and psychology from Marist College. She worked for hospitals and was involved with several charities, as well as working in the reinsurance industry for more than 20 years. She and her high school sweetheart, Anthony, were married in 1992. Melissa and Anthony love animals and had an extensive animal family before the birth of their miracle baby, Luke, in 2009.
