Masculinity Finally Gets Unmasked
A Podcast that deconstructs Masculinity
Brooklyn, NY, March 18, 2018 --(PR.com)-- The reckoning started in 2017. Trump’s reprehensible mutterings about women inspired a paradigm shift. A Women’s March echoed around the globe. Grossly misogynistic Hollywood producers were outed. Men everywhere backed up on their heels as the ground beneath them began to shake. The world demanded a change.
That change is a critical, discerning look at modern masculinity. What is masculinity? What are the cultural tent poles that uphold it? What are the ways we engage with it daily? How are we are all affected by masculinity--including men?
Enter the MASKulinity podcast, the first podcast from social impact media producer, Theo Media. The MASKulinity podcast is an open, constructive, and at times lighthearted, conversation that shines a wide net on all of masculinity. The podcast is not specifically critical of men. The podcast does not seek to crucify cisgender males. The MASKulinity podcast fosters a creative, constructive conversation on all of masculinity and how it affects us all.
The diverse hosts and guests make each episode a rich conversation. Host Samantha Nzessi, a French-Cameroonian American by way of Oakland, brings a necessary cisgender female angle to the masculinity conversation. Host Remoy Philip, a first generation South-Asian American who hails originally from Texas, brings his all-american upbringing to each episode. Samantha and Remoy use sports, the newest Netflix shows, national news, dating anecdotes, etc. as lenses to critically and cleverly talk through masculinity. Also, a diverse roster of guests regularly join Samantha and Remoy to speak to how their lives or work intersect with masculinity. Previous guests include: South Bronx natives, West Texas pastors, Boy Scout leaders, country musicians, violent crime counselors, queer community builders, TED Talk speakers and the list goes on and on. Previous episode topics include: men as victims of violent crime, locker room culture, christianity and masculinity, hood masculinity, single-sex education, Hollywood and masculinity, etc.
