Get Involved Company Helps The Children’s Center Raise Awareness of Child Abuse Prevention and Awareness Month

Scranton, PA, March 30, 2018 --(PR.com)-- Get Involved Company is helping The Children’s Center of Susquehanna and Wyoming Counties spread the news that April 2018 is Child Abuse Prevention and Awareness Month for Wyoming County. The purpose of Child Abuse Prevention and Awareness Month is to promote the urgency for the community to work together to prevent child abuse in Wyoming & Susquehanna Counties. Specifically, initiatives in April will focus on increasing awareness about child abuse and supporting prevention services and those that advocate for the social and emotional well-being of children and families.

In Pennsylvania alone, there were 76,384 referrals of Child Abuse and Neglect reported to 67 County Children and Youth Offices in 2016, the latest date of available statistics. 365 of those cases were in Wyoming County and 444 were in Susquehanna County. And, since opening in the fall of 2015, 120 children have been provided forensic interviews at The Children’s Center and 63 of those children received medical exams for sexual and physical abuse.

To kick off Child Abuse Prevention and Awareness Month, The Children’s Center team placed pinwheels at the courthouse to represent the children in Wyoming County who suffered physical and sexual abuse in 2017.
