Oneberry Technologies Pte Ltd - Caught in the Act
Oneberry Technologies presents the Central Automation Management System which deploys “Virtual Guards” transmitting footage only when movement is detected. Integrable with the Intelligent Guard System, its decentralised camera structure delivers and buffers asynchronous recordings of HiRes video surveillance systems. User access specific, the Central Automation Management System greatly assists management in critical decision making thus effectively bridging communication with organisations.
Singapore, Singapore, March 06, 2008 --(PR.com)-- Security company Evtec Management Services has chosen SingTel Meg@POP in the war against crime.
There has been a heightened need for security and surveillance since the tragic events of September 11, 2001. Today, the world is confronted by a myriad of threats that endanger public safety and place businesses at risk. Increasingly, companies feel the need to secure their premises and ensure their assets are well protected from thieves and trespassers.
Evtec Management Services has been providing surveillance and security services since 1988. Its major clients include government institutions such as the Singapore Land Authority (SLA) and government-linked companies. Property developers such as Far East Organisation and CapitaLand are also some of its major customers.
The SLA, for example, has engaged Evtec to safeguard its vacant premises, which include police and fire stations, hospitals, schools and army camps. Break-in thieves tend to take items such as toilet bowls and sinks, as well as metal objects such as window louvres and copper wires as these can fetch a tidy sum when sold. Other intruders simply seek to cause damage.
So far, all would-be culprits have been stopped in their tracks. What is the secret behind this success?
A potent combination
It lies in the potent combination of SingTel Meg@POP services and IP-based surveillance applications from Oneberry Technologies, a security solutions specialist.
Images from surveillance cameras installed in the vacant premises are relayed to Evtec’s command centre in Paya Lebar via the Meg@POP IP-VPN network. Pop-up alerts are triggered by Oneberry’s management system as soon as the slightest movements are detected. The images are recorded and stored in Evtec’s command centre servers.
Staff at the command centre will then dispatch a team of security guards on-site before notifying the police.
Remote audio warnings such as sirens and the sound of barking guard dogs can also be activated from the command centre, giving intruders the impression that the site is physically manned.
Passing savings on to customers
Evtec’s Security Advisor, Mr. Ken Pereira said, “The beauty of the solution is that it allows us to reduce the number of security guards deployed at each site by up to 40 per cent. This translates into significant cost-savings, which enable us to make our services more affordable for our customers.
“It is increasingly difficult to fill security guard positions these days. It has become a profession that many young people will not consider. This solution enables us to overcome this manpower shortage.”
Offering greater security and stability
Prior to Meg@POP, Evtec was using broadband ADSL lines to connect cameras to the command centre via the Internet.
“We needed a networking solution that could provide us with greater security and stability,” noted Mr. Pereira. “With Meg@POP, images and signals are delivered over a private network instead of over the public Internet, which means that our systems are not exposed to hackers and cyberthreats like viruses and spyware.
“Network congestion is also not an issue. As a private IP VPN service, Meg@POP offers the consistency and stability that is so crucial for our services.”
A natural choice for video surveillance
Video surveillance requires connections with higher upload bandwidth to enable the delivery of images from camera sites to the command centre. Apart from signals to control the movement of cameras, there is little need for the flow of data in the opposite direction.
With this in mind, Evtec chose to implement Meg@POP VLink access, which offer high upload bandwidth and comparatively lower download bandwidth at an affordable price.
Mr. Pereira said, “Meg@POP VLink is the natural choice for video surveillance applications. Other conventional ADSL solutions in the market provide more download bandwidth than we need, but not enough upload bandwidth.”
High-speed mobile access option
Meg@POP customers can choose from a wide range of access options, such as ADSL and Ethernet. High-Speed Downlink Packet Access (HSDPA), also known as 3.5G, is another mode of access.
With this, Evtec is able to remotely monitor real-time camera images via a mobile device at any time, and from any location. It also allows Evtec’s customers to retrieve the latest up-to-the-minute security reports.
The company also uses HSDPA to offer fleet management services, which allow customers to closely track the real-time location of all vehicles. Cars are fitted with a mobile transceiver fitted with an HSDPA SIM card that continually updates Evtec’s tracking system.
Mr. Pereira concluded, “We have made the right choice with Meg@POP. Essentially, we needed a solution that would work seamlessly with Oneberry’s sophisticated security management systems.
“The inherent scalability of the network, as well as its superior island-wide coverage also means we can quickly and easily add new camera locations.”
