NCDOT To Shift Traffic On Northbound And Southbound U.S. 1/64 In Cary

Cary, NC, March 03, 2006 --(PR.com)-- The N.C. Department of Transportation has announced that it will shift a segment of northbound traffic on U.S. 1/64 from the Tryon Road interchange to the Kildaire Farm Road Overpass onto two outside northbound lanes on Friday, March 3 at 8 p.m., weather permitting. Saturday, March 4 at 8 p.m. traffic will be shifted from southbound U.S. 1/64 between I-40 and the Tryon Road interchange onto northbound lanes located adjacent to the median, weather permitting. During this shift some ramps or loops may be closed intermittently. This pattern will allow for the widening and construction of U.S. 1/64 southbound. Exit crossovers will be in place and all southbound exits will remain open. The pattern is estimated to be in place through the project completion in late 2006.

The U.S. 1/64 widening project is a $58 million project to improve U.S. 1/64 from south of the I-40 interchange to the U.S. 64/Tryon Road interchange in Cary. The project is anticipated to be complete in late 2006, weather permitting.

The NCDOT reminds motorists to stay alert, obey the posted speed limit of 55 mph, be aware of construction workers and watch signs for construction information. The fine for speeding in the work zone is $250 and violators may receive three driver license points.
