Boulder, CO, April 23, 2018 --(PR.com)-- The Magic of Equine-Assisted Psychotherapy
Horses have been used in animal-assisted therapy since the early 1970s. Nyle Biondi, MHP’s Program Director described the work saying, “Horses are intuitive, non-judgmental animals who live in the present moment. With the help of a skilled therapist, clients begin to heal by connecting in the present moment, learning to communicate effectively, and learning to ask for what they need. Horses reflect back to us the emotions and energy that we put out to the world, allowing us to take a more introspective approach into the changes we want to make in our lives.”
Every Day at MHP is Off To The Races
Tabitha Farrar, Operations Manager at MHP noted, “Medicine Horse Program would not be able to do what we do without the horses. Keeping our horses happy and healthy is critical so that they can engage well with the work that they do here. The environment at Medicine Horse has to be physically and emotionally safe for both horses and humans, so looking after the horses and the facility is vitally important. Our staff and volunteers work hard to keep our horses and our barn clean and well maintained.”
Mini Horse Photo Op
A ticket to the real Kentucky Derby could cost you $15,000, and you might not even see a horse. Derby Day activities at the St. Julien come at a fraction of the cost - and you will see a horse. As part of the afternoon fun, for only $10, you can have a treasured Polaroid photo featuring you and our newest crew member, Sadie, a miniature horse who has spent nearly twenty years instilling confidence and joy to all who meet her.
During the afternoon, guests can also learn more about the horses at MHP who need sponsors. Horse sponsorships make great gifts to celebrate birthdays, holidays, and other special occasions or honor a special friend or loved one.
Mission and Services
In a unique, fun and challenging environment, Medicine Horse Program, a 501(c)(3) nonprofit organization, enhances the mental health of individuals, couples, families and groups through interactions with horses. The organization provides group and individual therapy sessions that focus on healing.
Your Donations at Work
Donations to MHP support programs for low-income individuals referred by local, city and county agencies, with an emphasis on vulnerable youth populations. In addition to offering programs for at-risk youth, MHP’s talented therapists also provide services to at-risk youth, addiction recovery programs, children in foster care, LBGTQ youth and adults, and people challenged by trauma, eating disorders, grief, developmental disabilities, or traumatic brain injury. Our Veterans program is in transition but is expected to be reinstated in early 2018. We also provide community service opportunities for diversion clients; offerings to schools; internships and work-study in equine-assisted psychotherapy; and formation of teen groups.
Events Open to the Community
The organization also invites the community to sponsored events and workshops, such as Drumming with Horses, Meditation with the Herd, Unbridled Creativity, Writing and Riding, Self-Care According to Horses, Exploring Gender Identity, our Fall Festival benefit, and Derby Day festivities.
