A New Book Casts Doubt on Mormon American Idol Contestants

The Conversion Conspiracy by Shane Lester is a fictional thriller about a scheme to promote Mormonism through mass media.

Evanston, WY, March 06, 2008 --(PR.com)-- In a year that saw the rise and fall of Mitt Romney, the first serious Mormon candidate for the presidency, coincidently two Mormons have made their way to be top contestants on American Idol. Brooke White and David Archuleta have invoked a measure of intrigue in dropping hints about their lifestyle choices and when Archuleta chose not to sing the first verse of the song "Imagine", which is considered by some as anti-God, one of the judges seemed incensed. However, it may be the case that America will vote for a Mormon singer but not a Mormon president.

Brook and David will soon discover that being a Mormon in Hollywood can be difficult. Shane Lester is also the author of Faith and Fortune: A Mormon Family in Hollywood, which reveals how the lure of fame can obliterate lives and put faithful Mormons to the ultimate test.

"The connection between the two books is interesting," says Lester. "I first wrote a non-fiction book about the prejudice of Hollywood toward Mormons and then I wrote a fictional book about how Hollywood is being manipulated by sinter forces to promote Mormon faith through the media. In some sense, maybe both are true."

Predicting this surge of Mormons being trust into the spot light, Shane Lester’s The Conversion Conspiracy, though fiction, offers a unique glimpse into Mormon beliefs.
