Distance Learning Systems Commits to Economic Development and Skills Enhancement Programs for Workforce

Online learning platform and education solutions provider Distance Learning Systems commits to strengthening Indiana’s workforce by adapting programs aimed at supporting jobs creation and training.

Greenwood, IN, April 27, 2018 --(PR.com)-- Distance Learning Systems announces it has been awarded an $80,000 grant from the Skills Enhancement Fund and $450,000 in EDGE TAX Credit to meet the company’s commitment to improving the standard of living for Indiana residents by adapting programs that support jobs creation, capital investment, job training, and skill enhancements for the workforce.

“Indiana offers various programs to make doing business here simple and affordable,” said Derrick Christy, CEO at Distance Learning Systems. “We are very excited to see that Distance Learning Systems will utilize IEDC programs to support jobs creation and training in order to help our mission of improving the standard of living for Indiana residents.”

One of the programs that Distance Learning Systems has received a credit certification for is the Economic Development for Growing Economy (EDGE) Tax Credit. This credit certification provides an incentive to the business to generate new jobs and to leverage capital investments in order to sustain job growth up to 10 years based upon the employment ramp-up outlined by the business.

“Our goal is 85 new jobs by 2022,” said Derrick Christy, CEO of Distance Learning Systems. “We believe that hitting this goal will positively impact the quality of life for residents in the communities where we operate our businesses.”

The other program that the online learning platform and education solutions provider has adapted is the Skills Enhancement Fund (SEF), which is a workforce training grant. This grant provides the necessary assistance to a business that will support employee training and upgrading of skills that are required to support new capital investment.

“The SEF grant not only helps support new capital investment for our communities, but it also helps to ensure that our employees will be given the opportunity to enhance their skills which leads to keeping our new workforce engaged while staying in our communities long term,” said Christy.

The EDGE Tax Credit certification and SEF grant are programs recommended by the Indiana Economic Development Corporation (IEDC) for businesses like Distance Learning Systems that are focused on further rooting themselves and expanding their operations within the state. In addition to these programs recommended by the IEDC, the American Council on Education’s College Credit Recommendation Service (ACE CREDIT®) has evaluated and recommended college credit for fifteen (15) courses offered by Distance Learning Systems.

“With today’s increasing cost and time required for higher education, it has become extremely challenging for many to fast-track, or even obtain a college degree,” said David Christy, President of Distance Learning Systems (DLSII). “ACE CREDIT recommendation now provides us with what many believe to be the best and most affordable platform for advancing the academic credentials of thousands of new students.”

Distance Learning Systems maintains a 97% national pass rate, and has saved students over $200 million in tuition and fees. All this while making it possible for students to complete college courses attending only 1 class per week. This unique program is delivered live online and classes are recorded for student review.

ACE CREDIT helps adults gain academic credit for courses and examinations taken outside traditional degree programs. More than 2,000 colleges and universities consider ACE CREDIT recommendations in determining the applicability of coursework and examination results to satisfy their courses and degree programs.
