34th Annual Florida Literacy Conference to be Held in Central Florida May 9-11
Orlando, FL, May 04, 2018 --(PR.com)-- The Florida Literacy Coalition (FLC) will be hosting the 34th Annual Florida Literacy Conference next week at the Orlando Marriott Lake Mary. This premier three-day literacy event offers adult and family literacy practitioners, volunteers and adult learners the opportunity to develop new skills and strategies to boost learning outcomes. The conference will include a wide range of sessions presented by local, state and national adult literacy educators.
The conference will kick off with a keynote address by Janna Peskett entitled Ignite Student Learning with a Growth Mindset. Peskett, director of digital content and curriculum design at Mindset Works, will explore the vital role of a growth mindset, the belief that mastery can be achieved through effort, to student success. Teachers and students alike will benefit from this approach, which can help improve motivation, resiliency and self-efficacy. During this event, Florida Blue Foundation will also be announcing 2018 health literacy grant that will be awarded to 14 Florida organizations.
Another highlight will include FLC’s Annual Meeting, in which the 2018 Adult Learner Essay Book, On Our Way, will be unveiled and select student authors will read their stories aloud. The essay book is comprised of more than 200 essays written by adults in various education programs throughout the state, and it is one of FLC’s most popular projects.
The conference concludes on May 11th with the Florida Literacy Awards Luncheon. The keynote speaker is Rachel Peric, executive director of Welcoming America, an organization dedicated to supporting diverse communities who are leading efforts to be more inclusive toward all residents including immigrants. The awards presentation honors the accomplishments of an outstanding Florida adult learner, literacy practitioner, volunteer, literacy program, and supporting business.
