First Ladies of Disco & Huntington Symphony Orchestra Plan a Picnic with a Beat, August 18, 2018
The First Ladies of Disco Show, starring legendary dance music icons Martha Wash, Linda Clifford and Norma Jean Wright (formerly of Chic), teams with the Huntington Symphony Orchestra for a lively “Picnic with the Pops” on August 18. Disco’s original heroines will perform with the orchestra at Harris Riverfront Park in West Virginia on August 18.
Las Vegas, NV, May 08, 2018 --(PR.com)-- Inspired by the internationally popular book First Ladies of Disco, the first of a six-volume series by New York-based author James Arena chronicling the lives and careers of dance music stars across five decades, The First Ladies of Disco Show has been touring the nation and garnering rave reviews. The show has enjoyed sold-out performances from New York to Palm Springs and has received extensive TV, radio and media coverage, all while celebrating the music that has uniquely defined an entire generation.
Headliner Martha Wash helped usher in the disco era with a series of classic hits as a back-up vocalist with Izora Armstead (known as Two Tons O’ Fun) for the immortal Sylvester (“You Make Me Feel (Mighty Real)”). In the decades that followed, Miss Wash’s success was unsurpassed, with megahits “It’s Raining Men” (under the moniker The Weather Girls) and as the stupendously powerful voice of C+C Music Factory’s “Everybody Dance Now (Gonna Make You Sweat).” As a solo artist, Martha’s numerous hits became definitive anthems for clubland in the ‘90s and 2000s, including the #1 hit “Carry On.” Linda Clifford set dance floors on fire with her classic disco extravaganzas “If My Friends Could See Me Now” and “Runaway Love.” She scored a major pop hit with “Red Light” from the classic Fame soundtrack as well. Norma Jean Wright was no stranger to the top of the pop charts as an original lead vocalist for the seminal group Chic, scoring monster hits with “Dance, Dance, Dance” and “Everybody Dance.” Her solo hit “Saturday” was also a major club success.
As an ensemble, First Ladies of Disco has been a force to be reckoned with on contemporary dance music charts. In 2015, the group scored a Top 10 hit on Billboard magazine’s club chart with “Show Some Love,” a number that generates a tremendous spirit of togetherness whenever it's performed live. The energized orchestral arrangements that accompany the stars of The First Ladies of Disco Show infuse new life into their hits, creating an infectious atmosphere of pure joy that keeps cheering audiences on their feet for the entire performance.
The First Ladies of Disco and the Huntington Symphony Orchestra are offering this exclusive, family friendly event on Friday, August 18.
