Marlborough Looks to Attract Young Talent Through City-Wide Job Fair
Annual Marlborough job fair seeks to connect local companies with recent graduates.
Marlborough, MA, May 09, 2018 --(PR.com)-- The City of Marlborough’s upcoming job fair will aim to connect graduating college and high school students with about two dozen local employers.
Organized by the Marlborough Economic Development Corporation (MEDC) as part of Mayor Arthur Vigeant’s ongoing efforts to increase local employment, the Marlborough Works! Job Fair will be held on Tuesday, May 22nd from 4:30pm to 7:30pm at the Courtyard by Marriott—Marlborough Ballroom.
Now in its seventh year, the event will focus on giving graduating students the opportunity to meet face to face with close to 25 local companies looking for fresh talent. Students who show their school ID will be able to enter the job fair at 4:30pm, in order to be the first ones to meet with hiring representatives from a variety of employers in a wide range of industries. Doors will open at 5pm for all jobseekers.
Boston Scientific, which recently made the Forbes list of the country’s top 100 companies to work for, is among the employers who will be looking to hire at this year’s job fair. Recruiters from Quest Diagnostics, Dow Chemical, Holographix, IEP Technologies, IPG Photonics, Atlas Travel & Technology Group and many other Marlborough companies will also be in attendance.
“Companies move to Marlborough because of the city’s central location and the access to talent from a variety of major educational institutions within a short driving distance,” said MEDC executive director, Meredith Harris. “We wanted to create a forum for our local employers and our regional student population to meet face to face, and hopefully forge long-term relationships. Our hope is that the Marlborough Works! Job Fair helps to fill job openings and turn graduating students into employees.”
More than 100 companies have moved to or expanded in Marlborough over the past 6 years, adding close to 7,000 jobs to the local labor market. The unemployment rate has fallen by more than 35% over the same time period and, according to the Executive Office of Labor and Workforce Development, it currently sits at 3.5%, as of March 2018. Marlborough’s labor force has grown by 2% and the number of people employed has risen by nearly 5% since 2012.
“The influx of companies moving into Marlborough has shown no signs of slowing down, since we first launched the job fair in 2012,” said Mayor Arthur Vigeant. “This has created thousands of local jobs for our residents, which in turn has bolstered the demand for talent. With the job fair, we are introducing a large group of residents and other potential employees to our local employers, and we hope to see many of them walk away with jobs.”

Job fair attendees are encouraged to register online ahead of time in order to avoid long lines. Those who bring a printout of their pre-registration to the job fair will be entered into a draw for a chance to win a $200 gift certificate to Apex Entertainment.
