Guiding the Future of Materials and Manufacturing Processes for Mission Success at Advanced Materials for Defense Summit
Defense Strategies Institute’s Advanced Materials for Defense Summit will bring together thought leaders & key policy-makers across DoD Labs, US Military Commands, Federal Govt Agencies, and critical organizations on July 11-12, 2018, for two days of actionable discussions & debate. Briefings will focus on the utilization of strategic materials & manufacturing processes & how they significantly reduce cost, increase sustainability, & advance readiness capabilities of DoD logistics capabilities.
Alexandria, VA, May 13, 2018 --(PR.com)-- As strategic materials and manufacturing are increasingly being utilized to help advance current and future DoD logistics operations, developing intuitive technologies to assist these operations is essential. With additional funding being designated to develop these advanced processes, there has come a greater push to ensure life cycle management for all major weapons systems and service platforms across the Military. Critical materials and manufacturing processes maintenance is vital to the maintaining and developing of US defensive capabilities.
To that end DSI’s Advanced Materials for Defense Summit will serve as an educational forum for personnel from DoD, Military Services, Federal Agencies, and Industry to discuss the efforts to facilitate and implement technology-based options for advanced materials and manufacturing processes. The utilization of these strategic materials and engineering processes will help to drive down manufacturing costs and improve sustainability and readiness capabilities for the Warfighter.
This year’s summit will offer 14 sessions, with over 16 diverse senior leader speakers including:
- Dr. Jeffrey Zabinski, SES, Director, Weapons and Materials Research Directorate, Army Research Laboratory
- Dr. Timothy J. Bunning, SES, Materials and Manufacturing Directorate (RX), Air Force Research Laboratory
- Dr. Julie Christodoulou, SES, Director, Naval Materials Division, Sea Warfare and Weapons Department, Office of Naval Research
- Dr. Peter Matic, SES, Superintendent, Materials Science and Technology Division, Naval Research Laboratory
- COL Stephen Thomas, USA, PM, Soldier Protection and Individual Equipment (SPIE), PEO Soldier, US Army
- Col. Howard Marotto, USMC, Lead for Additive Manufacturing/3D Printing Development and Implementation, HQMC (Installations and Logistics)
- Tracy Frost, Acting Director, OSD ManTech Program, Director, DoD Manufacturing USA Institutes
- Dr. Kristian Olivero, Tech Director, OC-ALC, Air Force Material Command
Topics will include:
- Advancing innovative materials research for critical defense needs
- Providing support to global logistics operations through enhanced manufacturing capabilities
- Developing high performance structural materials for Warfighting capabilities
- Developing materials and manufacturing sciences to ensure the development of affordable advanced materials
- Integrating high reward strategic materials that provide higher levels of combat power
- Ensuring material readiness and maintenance for major weapons systems
- Guiding 3D printing processes to accelerate Army manufacturing processes
- Integrating strategic materials onto soldier clothing and equipment to defeat and reduce threats of fragmentation and heat
- Assessing the impact of foreign investments into acquisition materials in the US
- Managing the utilization of Rare Earth Elements across the DoD
