Classical Music Video Download from Digital Classics

DCD Media-owned Digital Classics to make classical music and arts programmes available online. The UK and international download service will launch on 14 March, 2008 on the company’s website www.digitalclassics.co.uk.

London, United Kingdom, March 08, 2008 --(PR.com)-- Digital Classics will debut with over 150 titles, with new programmes added on a regular basis, plus free bonus material including synopses, images, and biographies where available. Select titles will be available exclusively for download and some titles will be made available outside the UK. All files will be suitable for PC, Mac and portable media devices such as iPods, on a download to own basis. Prices per title will range from 0.79p (€1.30) to £6.99 (€11.40).

At launch, Digital Classics will offer a wide range of titles including arias introduced and sung by some of the world’s greatest opera stars such as Thomas Hampson, Felicity Lott and Christine Schäfer. Also available for download as complete concerts and individual works are programmes with Sir Georg Solti, Andras Schiff and Krzysztof Penderecki spanning Chopin, Haydn, Bartok and more.

Films by renowned directors including Peter Greenaway’s groundbreaking visual work, A TV Dante and Robert Hughes’ film about Goya plus dance programmes from ballet to tango will also be available on the new site.

Commenting on the new digital initiative, Chris Hunt, CEO, DCD Media, said: “Although the video download market is still relatively immature, the industry is forecast to grow at an exponential rate during the next five years and we want to maximise all new revenue opportunities. The latest statistics from Strategic Analytics, predict that the video download market will grow to $5.9bn in annual revenues by 2010. We are not going to miss out on this upward trend.”
