Durham, NC, May 23, 2018 --(PR.com)-- The first Society for Scholarly Publishing (SSP) Durham Regional Event of 2018 took place on May 10 at the offices of Research Square in downtown Durham, North Carolina. This event, organized collaboratively by American Journal Experts (AJE), Research Square, Duke University Press, and Oxford University Press, is the sixth SSP regional event offered in Durham since 2015. The meetings are intended to foster conversations and the sharing of knowledge among the scholarly publishing community in the Triangle region of North Carolina.
Jocelyn Dawson, who helps organize the regional SSP events and is the Journals Marketing Manager at Duke University Press said, “We were delighted to host the most recent SSP Durham Regional Event at the offices of Research Square. They have hosted nearly all of our local events and we appreciate how supportive and welcoming the company has been. Lindsay Miller of AJE and Ben Mudrak of Research Square have both been active in our organizing efforts and have helped make Durham one of SSP's most active regions.”
The meeting focused on “Scholarly Communications in the Triangle: Key Players and Speed Networking” and welcomed ten speakers from local organizations in the publishing industry. Each speaker briefly shared information about their role and their organization, and then attendees and speakers participated in speed networking. The meeting and networking were moderated by Molly Hansen, Assistant Marketing Manager at Oxford University Press. Organizations with speakers in attendance included Duke University Press, J&J Editorial, Morningstar Law Group, NCSU Libraries, Oxford University Press, Research Square, Ringgold, RTI Press, Technica Editorial Services, and UNC Press.
One of the speakers and Research Square’s Strategic Partnerships Director, Ben Mudrak, PhD noted, “North Carolina's Triangle region is not just a hotbed for scientific research. There is also a thriving community of scholarly publishing professionals. It was a great experience to present alongside so many other innovative businesses in our area and meet a number of the great people that work at them.”
