Christi Brown, of Odessa, Texas is recognized by the International Assoc. of Who’s Who for exemplary achievements in the field of Accounting.
Odessa, TX, June 21, 2018 --(PR.com)-- Christi Brown decided to pursue a career in accounting quite early on, and attended Texas Tech University in Lubbock, where she obtained a Bachelor of Business Administration degree in Accounting. She attended the university from 1983 to 1987, and during her tenure there, was an active member of the Pi Beta Phi sorority, of which she served as President for the 1986 year.
She started off her career by taking a position with KPMG, where she worked as an audit manager, working on projects for such clients as oil and gas exploration and production companies, SEC filing companies and nonprofits, as well as governmental sectors. She also mentored new recruits and helped them integrate into the auditing department of the company.
After spending seven years with KPMG, Christi took a position with Elms, Faris & Company, LLP as a senior audit manager. Her role involved liaising with clients on matters such as business controls, risks and workflow inefficiencies, participating in the review and finalization of annual audit reports and reviewing financial statements, as well as training junior staff members.
Following almost six years in this role, Christi’s talents were redistributed in the Elms, Faris & Company arena, and she was appointed as an assurance partner. This required her to manage large teams of people and their activities, handle recruitment for the local branch, and oversee administrative operations such as budgeting, scheduling and staffing.
In 2010, Elms Faris & Company merged with Weaver and Tidwell LLP (now known as Weaver), where she began as an assurance partner. After four years with Weaver, she stepped out and brought her skills to an entirely different sector, joining Onyx Contractors, LP in Midland, Texas (www.Onyxcontractors.com) as their Chief Financial Officer. The company offers a wide range of contracting services, such as civil and commercial construction, dirt and concrete work, water transportation, and rental equipment to the western region of Texas and eastern New Mexico. Christi oversees all financial operations therein.
Christi also enjoys volunteering her time to charitable and nonprofit causes. She has served on the Board of Directors, the Executive Committee and the Finance Committee for the United Way of Odessa, Girl Scouts of the Desert Southwest, Junior League of Odessa, CASA of the Permian Basin, and Pink the Basin, Inc. She is the current President of the Board of Directors of Pink the Basin, Inc. She also currently serves on the audit committee for the University of Texas of the Permian Basin in Odessa, Texas. Outside of work and volunteering, Christi enjoys traveling and spending time with her family and friends.
