Davies Turner Enhances Moroccan Transport Services with Extra Fleet of Krone Garment Trailers

Davies Turner [www.daviesturner.co.uk] is making a major investment in additional high specification hanging garment trailers to serve the growing trade in garments moving between Morocco and the UK. The latest investment comes just six months after the UK’s leading independent freight forwarder and international transport company decided to step up the company’s investment in this market after other large trailer operators cut back services.

Dartford, United Kingdom, March 12, 2008 --(PR.com)-- The first 20 trailers, Krone dry liner straight frame garment trailers equipped with 100 garment bars, have already entered this growing traffic lane and a further 10 are due for delivery later this month. The trailers will be positioned at Davies Turner’s five main surface freight hubs in the UK – Birmingham, Bristol, Cumbernauld, Dartford and Manchester.

Philip Stephenson, Joint Managing Director of Davies Turner, says: “Morocco was one of our major success stories in 2007. These trailers, while still new, have proved very successful and have definitely earned their keep with a good balance of loads both north and southbound. We are looking forward to the arrival of the next 10 trailers to complement the existing trailers we have dedicated to this trade. More will follow as part of our phased expansion plans.”

Given the high value of the freight being moved between the two countries, Davies Turner has concentrated on building security into all sections of the supply chain in this trade.

Mr Stephenson adds: “The primary reason for going with Krone is that its trailers have steel walls, doors and roofs and offer really superior protection from break-ins or stowaways, which are both major concerns when loading takes place in Morocco. The trailers are fitted with satellite tracking and have a satellite monitored door security system.”

The security of the traffic on this route is vital to its success and Davies Turner has also supported the establishment of an independent organisation specialising in providing security services for DTCO Maroc, the Tangier-based logistics arm of the freight forwarder staffed by both expat and local employees. The primary function of the security company is to oversee the loading of garments and other goods at factories as well as providing security services for the trailers and their contacts while in Morocco.

The increased and continuing investment in trailers to operate between the UK and Morocco was prompted by the revival of the garment trade with Morocco after the disruption caused since the MFA (Multi Fibre Agreement) ended, when manufacturing in North Africa initially failed to match increased competition from the Far East.

However, the quicker and more flexible response possible with deliveries sourced in North Africa now more than compensates for this, whilst the country’s growing prosperity is also reflected in increased imports.
