Sunlake Academy Gets a New Leader
After one year in existence Sunlake is expanding and adding an 8th grade, completing the schools K-8 program. In response to this growth, the governing board and Charter School Associates have selected Marisa Martinez as the new Principal for Sunlake Academy of Math and Science.
Lutz, FL, July 03, 2018 --(PR.com)-- If year one is any indication, Sunlake Academy of Math and Science has a bright future. After one year in existence Sunlake is expanding and adding an 8th grade, completing the schools K-8 program. In response to this growth, members of the school’s governing board and Charter School Associates, Inc., the school’s Education Service Provider, set out to find the school’s next leader to meet the demands of a full service K-8 school. “After an extensive recruitment and interview process, the governing board and CSA selected Marisa Martinez as the next principal for Sunlake Academy of Math and Science,” Michael Strader, CSA’s President explained.
Mrs. Martinez is a seasoned educator and leader from the Chicago area who most recently served as the Coordinator of College and Career Readiness for the Community Unit School District outside of Chicago. Prior to this role, she served as the Principal of Simpson Academy for Young Women in Chicago, Assistant Principal of Theodore Roosevelt High School, as well as serving as the Management Support Director for 12 high schools in Chicago.
“We believe that Mrs. Martinez brings the right set of skills to take Sunlake to new levels of achievement and strategic placement in the greater Hillsborough community,” noted Patricia Rogers, Board Chair for Advantage Academy of Hillsborough, the local board that oversees Sunlake Academy. Sunlake opened in 2017, enrolling grades K-7 and totaling 646 students. Next year, Sunlake will add 8th grade and increase enrollment to 930. Sunlake Academy of Math and Science (SAMS) is a K-8 public charter school, offering a comprehensive curriculum with a STEM focus. Students experience hands on learning and differentiated instruction in an individualized setting.
Sunlake Academy will host an open house in the coming days to introduce Mrs. Martinez to the community.
