Catalogue Copywriter Wins at Freelancer of the Year Awards

Exeter, United Kingdom, March 13, 2008 --(PR.com)-- Catalogue and ecommerce copywriter Anna Hollisey was one of 6 winners at the national Freelancer of the Year awards, 2008. She won the ‘Editorial’ title for her copywriting for catalogue and ecommerce companies Bees and Duvet & Pillow Warehouse.

Real added value

The judges praised Anna’s work for adding real value to client businesses. Matt Porter, Group Editor at the Forward Group, said:

“The standard of entries this year was higher than ever; there are some great freelancers in the industry. Anna won the award for her imaginative strategy solution for the Asian jewellery retailer Bees. Her work provided a complete foundation for the whole communications campaign and achieved tangible results; she has certainly added value to her client’s business and changed the business’s performance for the better.”

How Bees achieved 25% sales growth...

This fashion jewellery retailer combines contemporary glamour with old-fashioned values. Trading from Green Street (London) since 1995, Bees’ venture into mail-order started small – with a four-page leaflet promoting an iPod competition. Anna was asked to create compelling copy that would make people open this new mailer. It led with the controversial theme of “What’s your colour?”, playing on the ethnic origin of the audience and the colour-theming within the store. Weeks later, this successful mailer was followed with a 24pp catalogue. Aimed at young Asian women, it was the retailer’s debut mail order book, with a glamorous feel, choose-your-colour theme, and bright, youthful copy. 10,000 catalogues were printed and mailed – and shoppers swarmed to the store, which saw sales soar by 25% (May-Sept 2007, compared to the same period the previous year).

Feel-good copy for feel-good bedding...

For online businesses whose sales depend on emotive or sensory responses, a compelling sales pitch is essential. In a marketplace where customers cannot feel, try or sniff the products, the words and photographs on the page must work extra-hard. During the last year, Anna has worked with Duvet & Pillow Warehouse, whose products are notoriously difficult to sell from the page. The website’s keen pricing and emotive, luxurious copy have brought it to the attention of a wide audience – bringing in over 10,000 customers in the past 12 months alone.

Get more from your freelancers

“I’ve been fortunate to have the opportunity to work with these clients on a long-term basis,” said Anna. “I know from experience that when your freelance support is part of your team, and not just called in and sent back out, both parties get more from the relationship. As part of the teams at Bees and DPW I’ve been involved from the early stages and been able to play a part in their successes – making these projects incredibly rewarding.

“A freelancer isn’t just an emergency resource – (s)he is usually someone with a wide breadth of experience in your industry, and likely to bring new ideas and bright enthusiasm to projects. For me personally, the variety of challenges in my week keeps me happy and interested, which clearly benefits all of my clients!”
