Local Non-Profit, Water Walkers, Experiences Growth in the Midst of Gentrification

Water Walkers is a youth mentorship program based in Nashville, Tennessee serving at-risk kids ages 6-18. The program aims to build confidence and community among kids who have had limited exposure to the world beyond the boundaries of governmental housing. By bringing kids outside these limitations and into the beauty of creation, Water Walkers exists to open a sense of wonder and inspiration in their lives.

Nashville, TN, July 31, 2018 --(PR.com)-- Community outreach is necessary to build awareness of the changes happening each day in our city. Edgehill, a government-housing community, is surrounded by constant change, but the community continues to suffer. Water Walkers works specifically with the children of Edgehill to expand their experiences outside of the neighborhood boundaries by bringing them into the beauty of one of Nashville’s Recreation Areas, J. Percy Priest Reservoir where each summer children learn life lessons through water sports and lessons built around a curriculum for social emotional learning.

Water Walkers, now in its 3rd year, continues to partner with the children and families of the Edgehill community to create a flourishing environment for at-risk children through the summer program and after school tutoring year round. Each year more and more change is seen in the community as generations move through the program and pass down their positive message.
