Healthgrades Recognizes HCA/HealthONE’s Swedish Medical Center as 2018 Gynecologic Surgery Excellence Award™ Recipient
Englewood, CO, August 04, 2018 --(PR.com)-- HCA/HealthONE’s Swedish Medical Center today announced that it has been named a 2018 Gynecologic Surgery Excellence Award™ recipient by Healthgrades, the leading online resource for comprehensive information about physicians and hospitals. This award places Swedish Medical Center among a select group of hospitals—the top 10 percent of all hospitals evaluated for providing outstanding quality outcomes in gynecologic surgery.
“We are honored to be recognized with this award for clinical excellence,” Said Ryan Thornton, Chief Nursing Officer of Swedish Medical Center, “We are committed to providing the best quality of care for our patients and this award is a testament of the hard work of our team.”
“The Healthgrades 2018 Gynecologic Surgery Excellence Award recognizes hospitals for exceptional performance and helps consumers find the right care,” said Brad Bowman, MD, Chief Medical Officer, Healthgrades. “High-quality outcomes are a top priority for consumers when choosing hospitals, and the recipients of this award stand out due to their records of success.”
To help consumers evaluate and compare hospital performance in gynecologic surgery, Healthgrades analyzed patient outcome data for all patients (all-payer data) made available by 15 individual states and the District of Columbia for years 2014 through 2016. Healthgrades found that there is a significant variation in hospital quality for gynecologic surgery.
· From 2014 through 2016, patients treated in hospitals receiving the Healthgrades Gynecologic Surgery Excellence Award, had, on average, a 46.3 percent lower risk of experiencing a complication while in the hospital than if they were treated in hospitals that did not receive the award*.
· From 2014 to 2016, if all hospitals in the analysis performed similarly to those receiving the Healthgrades Gynecologic Surgery Excellence Award, complications could have potentially been avoided for 12,637 patients*.
The gynecology program at Swedish Medical Center provides a full range of screening, diagnosis, preventive and treatment services for women of all ages. Colorado’s largest gynecologic oncology program, Swedish treats 1 out of 3 women with gynecologic cancer in the state.
