Julian Opie Exhibition at Jonathan Novak Contemporary Art
Julian Opie Exhibition premieres at Jonathan Novak Contemporary Art gallery in Los Angeles August 27 – October 29, 2018.
Los Angeles, CA, August 29, 2018 --(PR.com)-- Julian Opie, one of the most influential and popular contemporary British artists, will be the focus of a new exhibition at Jonathan Novak Contemporary Art gallery in Los Angeles. The Julian Opie exhibition will showcase sculpture, digital animations and editions recently created by the artist.
Julian Opie’s work reveals his mastery of a variety of artistic media including painting, printmaking, sculpture, video and light installations. In his latest work, Opie celebrates contemporary life with depictions of urban and rural landscapes, kinetic three-dimensional figures, minimalist street scenes and modern portraits. Known for their striking visual impact, Julian Opie’s work is among the most recognizable in contemporary art today.
Well known for his representations of people, Opie’s compelling iconography illustrates the quintessential circumstances of humanity everywhere. His depictions of landscapes—both urban and rural—are seemingly simplistic yet belie the sophisticated construction of the work. These stylized pieces incorporate elements of illustration, environmental design and fine art. He is known for using the process of digital manipulation through which he distills photographs of his subject matter down to their essential, figurative forms.
The exhibition includes a series of black-line relief silhouettes entitled Walking in Melbourne as well as three-dimensional walking figures known as Melbourne Statuettes. Additionally, the show will feature Crows, a whimsical animated light installation; Cornish Coast, a series of colorful minimalist landscapes; and Heads, a set of three-dimensional profiles on sprayed aluminum. Also on view will be a Julian Opie self-portrait and the Nature 1 series featuring laser-cut aluminum wall reliefs depicting boats, pebbles, sheep and fish.
The work of Julian Opie is on display in public installations around the world and is featured in many permanent collections including The Tate Gallery in London and the Museum of Modern Art in New York.
