The Third Annual Providence Y2K18 International Live Looping Festival (PVDLoop) returns to AS220 from October 12-13, 2018. Once again, PVDLoop will present some of the best local, national and international live looping artists. In its third iteration, the premiere event will continue to be the only East Coast satellite festival of the Y2K International Live Looping Festival Network, founded in Santa Cruz, California, in 2001.
"You've probably heard looping; you've just never heard it and all its diversity in one place," says Laurie Amat, local Providence artist and producer of PVDLoop. "Last year, PVDLoop attracted a new and larger audience to AS220 – people interested in live looping, looping technology, and experimental music as listeners, as amateur/hobbyist musicians, and other musicians in the local scene."
This year's PVDLoop will present several returning artists, including Sweet Pea Pumpkin, Manami Braxton, and Ky Why, in addition to national and international players such as Japan's MANDOMAN, Ian C. Bouras (NY) and Cindy Sawprano (CA). Festival organizers are thrilled to announce two collaborations: WD-41 with Dark Matter Horns (TX) with Providence's Nick Cooper, and Shores of Latency, Amat's duo with French multi-instrumentalist Emmanuel Reveneau. New groups from the local Rhode Island scene include Snowbeasts, Glenna Van Nostrand, Jon Buser. "We're really thrilled that our local festival presence is almost half of our lineup," Amat notes. "We've got a lot of talent right here and it's so much of what's made the PVDLoop an audience favorite." International loopers Lucid Brain Integrative Project and ecnegrU from France, Pakistan's Faisal Mahmood Kahn, and Swedish multi-instrumentalist Per Boysen round off the list of live looping artists who help make PVDLoop an unparalleled international festival.
"People have been asking about PVDLoop for many months now, recognizing us, and telling us how much they enjoyed the whole experience," Amat shares. "We are so grateful and happy the festival is engaging wider audiences each year and is a definitive part of the arts scene in Providence and beyond." She stresses, "PVDLoop is still keeping our music open to multiple genres, from traditional to experimental. We're continuing our PVDLoop tradition of video, and we've got some great surprises for our audience this year, including events and workshops for participating artists and the general public. Announcements for these events will be posted on our website and social media."
PVDLoop is made possible in part by a grant from the Rhode Island State Council on the Arts, through an appropriation by the Rhode Island General Assembly and a grant from the National Endowment for the Arts.
About the Y2K International Live Looping Festival
The annual Y2K International Live Looping Festival began in 2001 by Rick Walker, himself a found sound/livelooping artist. It is the first international live looping festival and longest running one in history. Hundreds of live looping artists have come to the festival from different countries and the festival itself has inspired other live looping festivals in 51 cities in 21 countries around the world.
