Oakland Based Non-Profit Earns Prestigious Young Women Transform Prize
Asante Africa Foundation, based in Oakland, CA, has received the 2018 Young Women Transform Prize, which was made possible through partnerships with USAID, the Volvo Group, and Standard Chartered. Through the prize, USAID and its partners support youth-led or youth-serving organizations in developing countries to create their own solutions to advance the economic empowerment of young women in their communities.
Oakland, CA, September 21, 2018 --(PR.com)-- USAID’s Youth Power Learning launched a prize competition on March 7, 2018, for innovations that help to remove barriers to young women’s economic empowerment. Youth-led and youth-serving organizations in low-and middle-income countries were invited to submit innovative solutions to address this issue.
Asante Africa Foundation, a non-profit dedicated to educating children and transforming worlds of East Africa, received a recognition prize for innovative strategies that have improved young women’s economic empowerment.
Youth Power Learning has announced eight winners of the Young Women Transform Prize, which was made possible through partnerships with USAID, the Volvo Group, and Standard Chartered. Through the prize, USAID and its partners will support youth-led or youth-serving organizations in developing countries to create their own solutions to advance the economic empowerment of young women in their communities. The winners were selected based on criteria that included a demonstrated understanding of barriers to young women’s economic empowerment, the originality and innovativeness of their activity that creatively addresses these barriers, and effective engagement young people, particularly women, in their proposed activity. The prize winners, through these grants, will capture new evidence and approaches to improve young women’s economic opportunities in low- and middle-income countries, which experience the highest rates of youth unemployment in the world.
Recognition prizes showcase innovative strategies that have improved young women’s economic opportunities, and collect and share learning from these innovations.
