Multi-Million Dollar Pet Business HandsOn Takes a Punch from Inferior Knockoffs
Mansfield, TX, September 25, 2018 --(PR.com)-- Jay Michaelson, 42, grew up bathing and grooming horses and dogs. Raised in Texas, the curious young man always wondered why his family kept buying the same old hard-to-hold curry combs that were marginal at best, bathing mitts that never fit and shedding blades that literally ripped the animals’ hair right out.
After 20 years in film and television production, Michaelson was growing weary of Hollywood. His 2002 award-winning documentary – “In a Whisper” – paired three of the world’s top horse clinicians with two-year-old colts for the first-ever, timed colt starting competition, which happened right in the middle of downtown Fort Worth’s Sundance Square.
“Always curious, I’ve had lots of ‘why didn’t I think of that’ moments,” explained Michaelson, founder and CEO of HandsOn® Gloves. “Working with horses during the production of ‘In a Whisper’ reminded me of one of my favorite ideas from my youth – to create the first ever animal grooming gloves that would be flexible and easy-to-use, making bathing, grooming and shedding more enjoyable for both animals and owners alike.”
Michaelson spent more than four years and several hundred thousand dollars developing HandsOn Gloves, quickly realizing the reason a quality, comparable grooming product had never been developed – “They were really difficult to make right!”
HandsOn is a revolutionary animal grooming tool that reaches far beyond the traditional curry combs, mitts and shedders currently on the market. Wet or dry, the delicate gloves won’t slip or fall off, while providing both the groomer and the animal with a more thorough and enjoyable grooming and bathing experience. Constructed from durable, hypo-allergenic, surgical grade Nitrile and PCV material, the lightweight gloves come in five sizes and with extremely soft nodules on the fingers and palms. The one-of-a-kind pet product was officially launched at the Global Pet Expo in Orlando, FL in March 2016 to rave reviews.
“In the past two years, our business has exploded internationally with more than $5,000,000 in sales each year,” shared Michaelson. “We’ve quickly grown 100%+ year over year through our collective sales on QVC, as well as retail giants including ACE Hardware, Amazon, Chewy.com and more.
Understanding that inferior counterfeit products would arise, Michaelson applied for a patent, which was granted on May 8, 2018.
“After the patent was granted, we swiftly began the costly, formal process to start shutting the counterfeiters down,” explained Michaelson.
Michaelson continued, “I recognize that when you develop a great product, knockoffs will happen. That’s the cost of doing business. But when I do my part to provide proof that my brand, likeness, photos and product are indeed mine and mine alone, I would hope retailers would act accordingly. “The fraudulent knockoff gloves are a significantly inferior product.”
Michaelson has recently ceased all advertising.
